I had a backyard reception. I had my two sisters run the event. they had the scheduling down pat and it went smoothly. Also, keep the event simple and elegant. Don't forget that a wedding is just one day, and marriage is forever.

I had a huge reception at a hall we had rented, and since I hated asking people to help because I felt it would put them out, I ended up doing everything myself. What a mistake. Although it all turned out fine, my nerves were shot before the big event even took place. I'd advise getting help, maybe even a willing friend or family member.
My cousin asked me to 'coordiate' his wedding ceremony, meaning I would make sure the groom and groomsman all had their flowers pinned on, and helped the bridesmaids with any last minute getting ready needs. I also attended the rehearsal, and was in charge of sending each couple down the aisle. This is something that I didn't do at my own wedding, and I wish I did. The couples weren't sure of when to go, and it made everyone more nervous of screwing up.
Also, get someone to help the photographer/videographer in identifying who's imporant family. There may be some shots they'd miss if they don't know, like Godmother/Godfather, close family friends, etc.
I've also seen weddings that had guest book 'attendants'. The couple had bought more than one guest book and putting them on adjacent tables so the guests wouldn't have to stand in a long line waiting to sign in. The attendants would direct people to keep the lines flowing. Since you have 50 guests this would probably not be too big a problem for you.
Also, I'd get help decorating as well. Not just for the help of more hands, but also the speed it getting it done, and they may also have valuable input on things you never thought of before. Don't forget about someone to roll the isle runner before your walk down the aisle if you choose to use it.
Good luck and congratulations. I hope all goes well!

I'm assuming this is a summer party? If it's most likely to be "hot and humid" try having optional side panels for the tent and a couple of stand alone air conditioners; also, rent some large "misting" fans; definitely hire someone to make sure everything's done or create lists and delegate to friends-each friend is responsible for say 5-10 items; make sure there are designated drivers and reserve a couple of hotel rooms "just in case" or have friend offer extra bedrooms; set up a couple of camcorders at integral spots and set the cameras to record at different angles(don't forget to change tapes a couple of times throughout the day); do low maintenance "finger foods" and snacks and if it's a BBQ, hire someone to do it so everyone can have fun and not worry about cooking.

I hosted a party last year for my daughter's 18th and expected max of 80 guests..i planned and budgeted it all up...borrowed catering stuff and got 4 waiters.....my friend my mom and me cooked the food...and hoping to save money i opted for a hawaiian party....i even made the program,.....and believe me...170 guests arrived and the party was a sure hit...and everyone was talking about it even months after....they were not aware that i was thinking the food won't take such a huge amount of guests but it did....the only one i wasn't able to solve is the need for more chairs and tables....but hawaian theme made up for it and guests were just so happy sitting anywhere else...the endpoint>>>it finished wee hours of the morning with minimal garbage coz we just held it at the backyard...and i the host...was on cloud 9....the comments were all great.....best food ...nice program...very wonderful party .

You need to rely on someone who does all that work, otherwise this party would be exhausting for you, but you should've enjoy it. You'd be busy any way checking on that person whether it's going according your own preferences. You have to be visible to your guests, to be a part of your society and not of the kitchen staff who changes display on the table. There are always some details which are missed but that happens. Have a good time

I appointed someone to take care of everything and make sure that all goes well. I wanted to take advantage of the time that I had to have some fun and enjoy everyone's company. I did not want to stress out about whether the cake was ready or if the food was warm.......
