I understand exactly what you're talking about. I feel that it's mostly because of all the different doctors wanting to make a quick buck. Think about it......in the 60's, people took illegal drugs to get away from reality, now they take prescription drugs to keep reality in check. There is now a medical diagnosis, or a disease for everything, and a drug to treat it. So being the spoiled rotten Americans that we are, we gladly dish out thousands upon thousands on dollars each year to our doctors, therapists, counselors, pharmacies, and whoever else that is in the loop for our "treatment". Ever notice that there isn't any people who are depressed in 3rd world countries? These are the people who deserve to be depressed. But if we don't get our way, or our friends tease us, or if we can't keep up with the Jones', then we'll need depression medicine. The foreigners are correct......we need a pill for everything, and they laugh and ridicule us for this. Best of luck to you........

I once read an article on pill consumption worldwide.
Nearly every developed country has the same average lifespan (including the U.S.), no matter how many pills its people consume.
Then again, ever hear a song called, "In the Year 2525"? Part of the lyrics reads something like: "Everything you think, do & say is in the pill you take each day."

It starts here in the U.S. with an asinine procedure, where your baby is given Erythromycin, as soon as he or she is born. It is used to prevent eye disease, should the mother have an STD, and the baby is born vaginally. The irony is, the law requires it, even if the mother is disease free, and/or even if she has a c-section. It's BS, and the introduction to a medicine dependent human. Most doctors aren't even doctors any more, they are soldiers and recruiters for the pharmaceutical giants. If you don't have a disease, they'll invent one, and you'll have a pill for it shortly after.

People depend on medicine because they are either too lazy to actually excercise and eat right. Instead of doing the right thing, people can take a shortcut and take a pill to get the same results.

obviously you're not from america. Your perception is totally off. You're focusing too much on people that take a lot of drugs, when in reality, there are a lot of people that don't depend on medicine.
A lot of americans are smart enough to know that our body's defense mechanisms (like having a fever) are there to protect our body.
Give us some stats instead of generalizing you lazy fcuk.

Hindering for sure.... We're addicted pill poppers. We don't want to change our lifestyle so we'd rather get someone to prescribe a pill to fix the symptoms. It's very very stupid and damaging to our health.
I refuse to take medication for anything unless its more dangerous not to.

Doctors have been bribed by the big drug companies. Did you know that it's the big drug companies that pay for most scholarships for Medical schools? Even the American Medical Association is held hostage by Big Drug Companies. It's all about money. Treat the sickness but don't cure it.

Hmm, never heard this before. Perhaps we aren't pill crazy, but Americans can afford to use drugs to make ourselves get well.

i think part of it is the media. i mean, how many commercials a day do you see for prescriptions? tons. the drug companies are telling us we need these medications and going to get some from your doctor will make your life perfect.
