yes antidepressants do work. though like all drugs meant for the Central nervous system they take time to have effect. you need to take them for 4-6 weeks regularly as prescribed so that the concentration of the drug in plasma reaches a therapeutic dose then it can penetrate the blood brain barrier.
it is important to adhere to the dosage schedule and to take the drug for few months as the improvement in mood is gradually progressive.
also the dosage must not be stopped abruptly as it can lead to serious adverse effects. so to discontinue treatment it must be tapered down gradually under medical supervision

Yes they do. There are different types the old ones TCA's and the new ones SSRI's. The SSRI's have fewer side effects. Many people have been helped by these medications. If you are depressed please see a doctor and disguss this. Depression can be dangers not to mention very painful. Treatment can improve your life. You have a right to feel good. You doctor can help you sort out what is going on. It might be medical caused or it might be a chemical imbalance in the brain. Either way it is something that needs to be treated so you can feel better.

They do help those who are properly diagnosed as being clinically depressed. However, if there is a misdiagnosis (i.e., the patient has bipolar disorder) serious problems can arise.

yes they do... i have been on them now for 5 yrs and never fely better.They don't make you happy, they just let you have better days. Not bad up and down days. talk to your Dr. they do help
