I have to wear a stupid uniform (not an actual one but the same color combination everyday) and I hate it. I have alot of clothes that would fit the combination but my employer is particular about the top (it has to be like a shirt , not sweater or other type of top) and most of the skirts in the color are too short as in they don't go downto my knees (what is wrong with wearing an above the knee skirt? I am stuck wearing the same clothes every workday because I reallyl can't afford to go out and buy more of what they want me to wear and besides there are no trendy tops in the style and color they want at the time. Most of the women wear men's shirts which I will not do. Does anyone else get bored wearing the same stuff everyday (especially when it really doesn't represent who you really are). ??

When you are at work....you are not really representing yourself you are being paid to represent the company you work for. (your personality is pretty much how you represent yourself)
You sound young and typical......if you dislike the job you should quit. If you like the job.....you should grin and bare the uniform. Anyone with a brain knows you are not choosing to wear the uniform because it's so fashionable...work is work, play is play.
Been there, done it, and disliked it too but did what I had to do.

Putting style into my work apparel helps me feel I am showing some of my own personality while adhering to all of the things they expect me to do. I too have certain expectations about the image they want me to portray. It sounds to me like they want you to wear a button up dress shirt. ? It would not cost much to take a few of your shirts to a seamstress who could alter them to be more fitted to your figure. A fitted dress shirt is much more attractive on a women. Lands end sells them like that. As for skirts, I find a lot of variety looking at the clearance section of Newport news, Chadwicks and Lernerscatalog on-line and the price is right for what I want to spend for work. You can always have a cute longer skirt altered to be the right length for cheap. Find ways to show your personality and control by taking time to do your hair and make up the way you like and/or carry a fun purse. At least you are then ready to put on something else and go after work. Fun shoes would help too if they let you. Most importantly remember that the job is only a tool that allows you to make money and accomplish your goals, not a genuine reflection of you. Next time you change jobs I would add the availability to express your self style wise to your list of wants.

Sounds like a real boomer. I wear what I like to work but my friend can't. Also like you she shops in the boys or men clothing department to find tropical shirts, white button down the front shirt (which her job in always changing) etc. She hates it but needs the money. Some times you have to decide what is more important and if it worth staying. Happiness is very important to me.

My employer is fairly casual, so some days I wear dress shirt, tie, and pressed slacks; other days I wear slacks and a polo shirt with the office's badge on it; and some days it's just blue jeans and a sports shirt. I'm lucky.

So what did you do to yourself? Frizzy white hair and glasses??? Is that your new look? Very adventurous.

I don't have to wear the same colors like you do (which really sucks, btw - I'm sorry for you), but still, I do agree that my work clothes rarely represent who I am. If I could, I'd wear jeans or yoga pants.... or pajamas! But they would probably stop paying me if I did that....

Thank GOD I am in the creative field, I just dress how I feel but know to step it up if I am going to be meeting the public. I love being a graphic artist.
