stem cells are cells that are capable of dividing and specializing into any type of cell...this means that if the research proves successful we could eradicate the need of transplants and the need of immunospressants which stops the immune system from rejecting the transplanted organ because through stem cell technology we could form an organ exactly genetically identical to the patient. This is only a part of the promise that stem cell research has.
