There are only two classes of people in the world, both then as well as now: Those who repent of their sins and those who refuse to; those who turn away from their sins and those who won't. It is very important to understand this, because a person who comes to Jesus and becomes a true follower of His is always a person who is turning away from their sins. There is no exception. A person who is not turning away from their sins is not a true follower of Jesus, no matter what it may say on their bumper sticker. Being a follower of Jesus and being truly repentant cannot be separated from each other. When we speak about being repentant, you may ask, repentant of what? Repentant of our selfishness, our pride, our lust, our bitterness and resentment, and our lack of self-control, just to name a few.

I agree with the comment totally.

I would add that the reason we are constantly turning away from sin is because we sin daily. To believe that we can go through a day without sin is deception. If we think that way then we believe we are better than we really are.

Great post.

It sounds a little simplified, but if we are going to break the world down to just two classes of people then I'd say that they are:
1) those who are self-aware (realize their true nature)
2) those who are ignorant (lost in the illusion and do not realize their true nature)

But that's just me speaking from a Hindu perspective. I am sure the two classes you spoke of are just you speaking from your Christian perspective. Atleast we agree that there are atleast two classes of people.

Thanks for asking and thank you very much for posting a link to where the statement came from. That was very honest of you.

God's peace be with you.

What can be said that hasn't already in you little soliloquy.. Still, I try to extend on some of that: Beyond the repentance of one's sinful commissions and omissions for daily sanctification, there are other attributes that lead humans to stumble in their walk with God: Beyond human pride/arrogance & the other "Seven Deadlies," the human penchant for denial/ procrastination on issues that cry out for well-skilled remediations but instead are met with equally adept avoidance mechanisms find continuing "safe harbor" in each person's mind. Also, there are the human propensities for treating truly complex problems with overly simplistic and too-often "oppositional" mindsets rather than cooperative, complementary, & reflexive mentalities, and conversely, the taking of what should be simply stated (and answered) - instead muddling the simple questions posed by others... so, as I'm fast becoming in danger of perpetrating that myself, let me end on one final note concerning God's grace: God knows each of our hearts (as you've said) so in lieu of that and at the risk of sounding like an admonitory "Papa voice," let provide two old adages: "There is no sin in the fact of not being perfect." and "If others have sinned, there is seldom reason enough to point it out... they know." There is little to be gained by adding embarassment to shame. This doesn't mean a society is not justified in holding its citizenry accountable, it just means that we gain little by not offering constructive critique in the stead of high-handed condemnation. Okay, once last paraphased biblical reference: You'll be judged as you judge others... leave it with God. Still this was a good question that needed voicing.

Sounds like some kind of catholic work of art....I'm not sure I agree with you at all....I believe in God and all that, but I don't know what you're talking about, only two kinds of people? Why is it okae for you to judge them then you should be repenting that!

Amen! Praise the Lord! Thank you, I needed those words right now. Witnessing on the internet really brings me down. I usually can only work at it for 30 min. at a time so that the evil doesnt wear off on me. Thank you sister. May God Bless you.

Well, I don't think Paul would agree with all of it. We have all sinned and fall short of the glory of God. He spoke of a thorn in his flesh. Meaning some urge or desire in his mind or body that he had to struggle with I suppose. I think what God wants from us is to not abandon the struggle. It may take years to completely be rid of various maladies of the soul I mean all the way rid of it.... to even a hint of impulse or urge. If you teach a new Christian differently you may unrealistically over burden them before their faith and knowledge can grow to sustain them. A Christian who causes the death of faith in a new Christian by lording it over them in this way commits a grievous sin.

I agree. Everyone ends up in one of two places. Heaven or Hell. Although, it is not for any human being to decide where they will go. Only the sovereign God chooses whom to save and whom to condemn.

I agree that once Christ saves us, we will be unable to continue sinning. His grace changes us and we are continually shaped more into His image by the Father.

It sounds as if the author likes to judge how well others are repenting.

I think you are right. Jesus said, "except you repent, you will all likewise perish." Our lives show whether we are sincere and honest or just talking the talk.
