No! We lived there for three years. I had two babies in their hospitals. It is ignorance that has led people to believe they are rude. Their culture is different than ours. It's as simple as that to me! I laughed, cried and roomed with German folks. Every culture has their "good and bad guys". I know of a soldier in a pub minding his own business when an elderly German man came up to him and kissed him on both cheeks thanking him for his service. It's sad that people would think that all Germans are rude. It's like saying that all Americans are prejudice and materialistic. This is not true at all!!! They were patient with me as I stumbled through their language. VERY KIND to my children. Every shop we went into they had something to give my children...gummi bears, a roll, salami, stickers...just very wonderful to the kids. When they make friends they make them for life. They deeply value their relationships. Their pace of life is so much slower than ours and it was a nice break from the hectic pace of American life sometimes. I am proud to be an American and hope that I left as good an impression on the Germans I met along the way as they left on me.

I think they should be cold. All of these immigrants are running rampent in Germany dragging down the welfare system and taking jobs away from Germans. They need to go back to their countries and stop trying to overrun the other ones. I am an American.

Not all germans, but the eastern part of germany has some great neo nazi population, they're the ones who are cold towards non-aryans, and they are very violent with african descents...my co-worker learned the hard way when he went to a club in Düsseldorf in one of his business trips, and he got beat up, even the police didn't mind that much, it's like they're neo nazis too...

Because they are so conservative and hard worker, they look like that they have no space at all. and the war movies gave people the idea of cold. Nati and so on with German sounds, for me when I hear the German word, I feel myself having the chiken skin.

Germans are not cold.
They are straightforward. They are not as polite than other.
They say it and they mean what they say. At the first meeting, you might find them cold.
They are reserved, because they don't know you. That has nothing to do where are you from.

No. I lived in Germany for almost 4 years. My husband and I were in the military and we had German friends. Any time we would go and shop or just travel on the economy they were always kind and friendly. They appreciated the fact that we were Americans and we wanted to learn about their language/culture.

They aren't the friendliest people initially, but they do warm up to you eventually.
