My mother in law is jewish and superstisis. When her mother died she coverd all the mirrors in the house and before you could walk in the house you had to rinse your hands with water to''wash away the dead''. I thought this was rediculus. What about ''red ribbons keep away evil''. or putting your purse on the floor takes away money. She did not let me and my husband buy our baby a nursey untill after he was born, she said it was a jewish thing, it gives bad luck.

Actually you are mistaking superstitions for obeying laws. Except for the money on the purse thing. It just seems like superstitions beacuse the symbols of the customs haven't been explained. Maybe ask questions next time, then you can begin to appreciate and maybe even participate. Unfortunately many Jews practice these without knowing why themselves so make sure you are getting creditable answers. There are even some pretty good books on the subject if you don't have a Rabbi handy.

Very ridiculous and foolish person.

If you know the word of God you know everything your mother in law do is superstition. Don't aloud Satan conquer over you or your family, what she could be doing is coursing without noticing.

Romans 1:18 - 3:20 gives us a spiritual portrait of what men are outside of Christ. It is an ugly picture upon which we would prefer not to linger. We can think of this passage as an essay upon the total depravity of men. A passage like Ephesians 2:1-6 declares the principle that men are spiritually dead and totally incapable of doing anything that pleases God nor can they do anything about the awful penalty they must face for their sins. The message of Romans is similar, describing the attitudes and actions of men which reveal them to be as dead as the Bible says they are.

Don't try please men, ... secret is that it is not your outside appearance that counts but what is inside you.

You would do well to learn what's behind those customs. There is much to love and cherish in Judaism, but you won't learn it from Christians.
Jesus was born and died a Jew. All the apostles were Jews. Why aren't you curious about the customs of Jesus and what he studied in the Talmud? I'm sure Jesus would frown on your disrespect of others, especially of God's holy people and of your immediate family! Did Jesus have anything to say about honoring in-laws, or was that only mother and father? Why aren't you embarrassed by the disrespect you show your in-laws?

while some of these acts are superstitions, some arent; like covering the mirror. this is to prevent one from grooming themselves during a time of mourning. and yes, it is normal for jews 2 have superstitions, especially the older ones. but if this concerns u, y dont u talk 2 ur mother in law?

Pagan superstitions can creep into any religion, or ethnic group. Is it normal? For pagans yes. For others? Only if they are not putting their faith where it belongs. This is not to say that all 'superstition' is bunk, what about 'don't walk under a ladder'? That one is not a superstition, but good since, you never know when something might fall off that ladder, or if you might knock it over as you walk under it.

That's so sad... superstition should have no place in the lives of people who worship God...
