I didn't have an 'encounter' with her, but years ago when I realized how ignorant Christianity was and began my spiritual quest, I read quite a few books on the feminine divinity. I felt compelled to "test" her so I asked her to present me with a yellow flower. I spent a week with my eyes peeled looking for this yellow flower. I started feeling foolish for allowing myself to believe in her. The next day, lo and behold, I came home from work and my four year old neighbor was standing in front of my house with a handful of buttercups for me. I asked her why she picked the flowers for me and she said...because you need them.
Although there are quite a few books depicting her in different ways...I pray to her constantly for my emotional needs and I've never wavered. She's always taken care of me...no matter how small the request is.

some view "god" as being composed of both masculine and feminine components. this was especially true prior to the patriarchal takeover a few thousand years ago. why the takeover? a long and inglorious saga--check it out. the divine feminine energy is embodied in the "goddesses" in, for example, all of the "pagan" religions. there are many websites which will provide you info in this area. but, even in the patriarchal "desert religions"--judaism, christianity and islam, its hard to suppress an irresistable force, so each recognizes, to an extent, this mysterious feminine. actually, an ancient religion, hinduism, sees the feminine as the entire basis of everything. definitely research shakti, devi, etc.--a profound connection for you. how do you encounter the feminine? the classic way is through appropriate invocation. first do the research and choose a/some goddesses that appeal to you, then set up a "ritual" place and setting for the invocation. the following "goddesses" seem especially receptive to sincere invocations: isis(aset), kwan yin, and green tara for starters. be sincere, keep practicing. when they "arrive on the scene" you may not "see" them but you will sense their presence, with practice. the benefits are unmistakable. check out also www.sahajayoga.com to get some experience working with subtle energies. and read*the complete idiot's guide to toltec wisdom* for helpful guidelines on meditation and other important concerns. always practice! good luck.

My friend, each time a woman gives birth, that sense of the Divine Feminine comes through loud and clear! Despite the fact that she may be screaming profanities as the baby's head clears the "event horizon." There is something definately eternal and cosmic about all that and it can never loose its luster in my eyes. No, the birth of the universe was probably close to the absolute spectacle found in this common event every hour around the world, but no more significant.

Divine feminine is a just a name given to certain life energy. It's most often embraced by people who feel threatened by masculinity. Or, who attempt to blame men for all the, so-called, negative things in life: war, disease, poverty, competition, technology...
Generally, Nature is considered to be feminine and Society is considered to be male. That's not exactly true.
Nature is a blance of male and female. They are integrated.
