China has a large army, however they are ill-equipped at present. If a war were to materialize right now, the US would win hands down. I've read estimates that China, if they continue their weapons spending at present amounts, will be a true threat to America in about 10 years.

The US Military is a proven lean, mean, fighting machine. There are not too many armies that will go toe to toe with US forces. The Chinese, on the other hand, haven't tested their mettle since the Korean War, at which time they got their as ses kicked by the US Marines, each time they engaged the American troops. The statistics on the Chosin Reservoir battle can back that up.

The Chinese had surrounded and engaged the Marine Corps 1st Marine Division in the winter of 1950. The 1st Marines consisted of about 12000 troops, the Chinese had 75000 troops. The commander of the Marines decided to fight their way out of the encirclement. After all was said and done, the Marines had suffered about 6000 casualties, either killed, wounded or badly frostbitten. The Chinese had 25000 killed, over 12000 wounded, and another 12500 with severe frostbite, as they went wimpering back across the 38th parallel.

China has a long way to go before it can stand toe to toe with the US and expect to come out on top.

Well the US military likes to think that one US soldier is the equal of about 40 soldiers of most countries. That is aminly because of Technology and field support. China's army would be close to that ratio I believe. So the US would have a advantage still about 80 million possible fighters in an doomsday war situation versus China at about 1 billion. The Rough numbers only considered possible in an all out war, or about the overall male work forces of those countries. The only problem would be if an all out war did occur, China could mobilize industry and technology very quickly and could draw that ratio much closer together.

The US armed forces are technically far more capable than the Chinese military. The US has true global reach and the ability to reach targets that China would struggle to defend! The only thing currently that would worry the Americans is China's man power! How long though would the Chinese be able to support the slaughter of thousands of its troops!
The worry would be that the whole situation would descend in to nuclear war and what would happen to the UN if 2 of the permanent members of the security council kicked off!

China has undergone a massive program of modernization of their military. In the last ten years, they made some fairly significant leaps ahead, but considering where they started, that may not be all that impressive.

China's military is modernizing, but there are distinct limits to the modernization program. First, the current force structure is so old that the rate of retirement will exceed the rate of acquisition in all major weapons categories, with the possible exception of major surface combatants. This means that the size of China’s armed forces will continue a recent pattern of decline, and to drop quite steeply in some cases, such as combat aircraft. The only exception may be China's surface combat ships.

Second, the modernization is proceeding slowly and in a piecemeal manner. All military forces take a significant amount of time to integrate new weapon systems into its forces; for China the process seems to take longer than most.

Third, China is adding only a handful of modern systems to its inventory. New systems are purchased in small batches or singly, which is cannot dramatically change the balance of power. Moreover, while "modern" relative to existing Chinese systems, current acquisitions from Russia are not as capable as the comparable systems fielded by the United States or even Japan, South Korea, or Taiwan (in some areas).

Finally, China's military modernization plan has highlighted the inability of the indigenous arms industry in China to produce the advanced technology weapon systems that the military wants. The recent return to dependence on foreign assistance (specifically, aircraft and naval vessels from Russia, and technical assistance from Israel) runs contrary to the Chinese government’s desire to fully control its own military destiny.

China may eventually change its policies and invest more financial resources in military modernization; but for the foreseeable future, China's potential for military action in Taiwan and other areas will remain limited. China may take a more active military role in its region, but the overall balance of power in East Asia will remain unchanged.

they're both designed to do diverse jobs. united statesa.'s GDP is about seven situations more advantageous than Britain's and they spend between 4-6% of it on Defence, even as Britain purely spends 2-3%. this signifies that the U. S. can arise with the money for extra infantrymen, sailors and airmen, and would also make investments in optimal kit in each and every branch. Britain concentrates truly on a miles smaller pressure of quite professional and nicely educated infantrymen and prioritises its best kit for its needed servicemen. There are some jobs that the U. S. many times leaves to British particular forces, mutually with the SAS and SBS, because the U. S. doesn't concentration on those aspects to an same degree. the yankee protection force is extra about warfighting - pulling off tremendous-scale invasions and occupations. Britain might want to not have invaded Iraq on my own, even if it freed up American aspects disproportionate to its own dedication. in an same way, British troops many times prefer to call in American air help because it possesses extra specialized close-help plane, like the Thunderbolt. Britain and united statesa. have diverse household projects. Britain confirmed in 1982 that its small protection force become able to shielding British pastimes in the course of the Falklands disaster. It has shown in 1991 (Iraq) 2001 (Afghanistan) and 2003 (Iraq back) that that's an truly helpful asset to American operations that they doesn't want to resign. yet, the U. S. is the extra "complete" pressure. that's larger and extra acceptable equipped, yet all of us declaring that one is extra acceptable educated or extra professional is speaking from prejudice. the academic techniques and center ideas of both militaries are intertwined and they percentage a lot interior the way of custom - stripped of his kit, the conventional British soldier will be style of equitable to the conventional American.

They are very capable compared.

The U.S. has advantage in experience, and technology (right now). In a land war, China would destroy the United States. However, the U.S. would never fight a land war in China. They would have to get to our shores first. That means getting past our Navy, Air Force, AND Marines. A U.S. / China war would end horribly for the entire world.

FAR MORE CAPABLE!! They can match the US, UK, and any other wold power with technology. Plus, they have far more males, (and this number will only increase due to their abortion practices). China can match any country in technological combat, and crush any country in close-combat. HANDS DOWN!

In addition, China has the element of surprise. Everyone is focused on the middle-east, and paying little attention to China.

As far as weapons.....I don't think there's any comparison. The U.S.A is extremely powerful and advanced.
Is china planning war? I doubt it. I think their hoping Bushes short fuse goes out and he does something stupid once again.
As far as brains in a leader.....Bush is lacking in a BIG WAY. I think with him president....the U.S.A is asking for trouble and may get a rude awakening sooner rather than later.
The sad thing is....I think Mr. Bush needs a rude awakening.....hopefully when that happens it's him they get and not your country.
