About 4 years ago my half brother died in a car crash...I lived in Alaska back then and he was down in the states. I dont know what state he died in. I really dont know much about what happened and Im not sure if i really beleive that he did die. I have never seen his obituary and every time I ask my family about when and where he died so I can go to his grave I get a different story. I am now in Arizona and would either like to see his obituary and his grave or find out the truth.. Does anyone know of any websites I can use to track down his obituary or find out the truth. ( perferably one that is free as for i dont have extra money) ( poor college student)...thank you for your feed back and help on this...

I looked up a death once by typing in the person's name and then putting obituary in the search also...e.g John Doe, obituary. You may have to use different variants of the name, like first and last, first middle and last, etc. If there were some way to find out what state he supposedly died in, you could find out if they have a death certificate on record by contacting the state's board of health.

You need to know the county in which he died, and the clerk's office there should have a record of his death certificate. It does seem fishy, or possibly just very traumatic and your family doens't want to talk about it. You can usually search on the county website for certificates of death, but it may cost you $5-10 for the information.

Knowing when and where he died, you may also be able to search the archives of the local newspaper for the listing, but you need to know where.

There is a website that you can find out if he has indeed passed by checking the social secrity record. If you know what state and city he died in look up the newspaper archives, that shold tell you the grave site as well.
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp when in this page go to death vital record, and type in name.

I'm sorry for your loss. :(
I found this website that might help. It's the Social Security Death Index.
You could also look for him on Findagrave...

find out what city he lived in and look up the major new paper published in that city and go to their website.. if you know around what date it happened look in their archives or search under his name and something should pop up.

i hope that helps :)

Isn't there anyone in the family you trust? Why would they lie about this?
