Well, any two people who witnessed the wedding can be the witnesses, not having to be in the party. I don't know what catholic has to so with it, do they have some rules?

Yes, anyone can be the witnesses, if the witnesses are actually needed, in most states they are not, even though the places for them to sign is on the license.

Yes, any two people that you would want to be a witness. Maybe two people you look up to. But it all depends with culture. I'm viet (catholic) and my hubby is chinese(christian). We got married in a church and with my culture, the witnesses are aunts/uncles. But for my wedding it was two of our good friends who happen to be the best man/maid of honor.

Anyone can sign the certificate, which is usually done before the actual ceremony. Just have the person come back to the room where the priest is going to have the signing.

What does it matter who witnesses it? All they do is sign a paper saying you got married. Big Deal!

Unless the priest is a pr--k, yes! And, you can also have more that one godmother and godfather if you want(when that time arrives).
