My girlfriend and I are looking after a hand-fed lovebird for a few weeks. The bird seems normal and healthy, but he keeps trying to hide or burrow under pillows, towels, clothes, etc.

Is this normal? Why is he doing this? I keep worrying that we're gona lose track of him and end up sitting on him accidentally or something.

DO NOT GET ANOTHER BIRD FOR THIS ONE. Lovebirds do just fine in singles with human companionship. Contrary to their name, Lovebirds can be quite content without another one, and may be obnoxious if not aggressive to other birds, no matter the species.

Cockatiels have a different mind-set then Love birds: they are more congenial and less likely to be aggressive to other birds. They are much more flexible in this manner.

This is very normal. This means he is really young and is just not ready to wean yet. The tight, enclosed spaces make them comfortable. Parakeets do the same- wild Lovebirds and Parakeets naturally burrow, especially if they are scared, cranky or tired. This is also a nesting habit. If you have pocketed shirts, this is a good way to bond with a Lovebird- they enjoy sitting in a shirt pocket :)

This is also a good game to play, like peek-a-boo or hide-and-go-seek.

yeah it's normal. Birds don't like being in the open. I have 2 conures and a cockatiel, and all three do it constantly. u really need 2 get a cage though, cuz it's safer for him/her. If ur only looking after it, get the cage from its owner. But keep it out of direct sunlight and away from vents. And this is just a suggestion, but the lovebird would be really happy if u got him a bird bed. you can get them at most pet stores. It's basically a piece of cloth with a solid bottom that hangs from the top of the cage.
Good Luck

If you have a single lovebird, then he is lonely. Most birds especially love birds need a companion. They like to have interaction with one another constantly. Sometimes a mirror behind the cage with help. I have two cockatiels and when one flies away from the other they will screech until they find one another.

First I consider many here and yet at some issues I disagree. undergo in innovations which you desire a fowl for you. somebody elses fowl and/or journey won't portray the same effect with you. ALL birds are incredible of their very own way!!! i exploit to humorous tale that i grew to become into goin to be the "loopy woman with all of the cats" no longer from now on - its birds birds BIRDS!!!! keep goin with your attempting to instruct your self. yet don't be weiry of those "horror thoughts" approximately puppy shops. I artwork at Petco and likely all puppy keep chains have their themes, yet once you walk right into a puppy keep, look at the birds for interest and fall in love with one then its ment to be. we've a asserting which you do no longer %. out the fowl the fowl %. you!!! ANd it is genuine. I see a lot of human beings are available in and want to play and touch the birds and the birds can %. up and experience what sort of individual you're and in the journey that your a tournament for them. permit this additionally be a play interior the incontrovertible fact that in case you look at a pair and that they do no longer take to you - don't be discouraged!! I easily have a place close to that focuses on purely birds. they have a sitting are like a small front room the place you are able to sit down and work together with a fowl to be certain in case you tournament or conflict. Birds no matter what sort want time, love, and interest. in case you purely want to pay attention the sounds of birds chirping get a canary. in case you want some thing you are able to play with and work together with their are many to % between. i in my opinion have had cockatiels, a parotlet, and that i now have a sunlight Conure. All are staggering - of their very own way. And ALL birds may be loud!!!!! Even finches cen get theri vocals goin. good luck and that i'm kinda curious as to what u be certain so in case you have from now on q's or make a determination hit me up on the IM.

The owner probably allows the bird to snuggle with them. They will try to get under your neck and between the pillow. Put the bird in it's cage if your afraid it's going to get hurt.

Yes it is normal - they like confined spaces that make them feel save. he/she should have a cage though - cause they can get lost or smashed.
