Cars are platforms for parts. Parts from all over the world. All are mixes from various producers. Some cars are designed for comfort or performance or blend of both.etc, Large american cars tend to live longer useful lives as they are or were somewhat heavy duty compared to Japan korea vehicles.German cars stress handling performance with or without luxury and importantly for me Fun! Personality. Some high priced Japanese cars work very well but islolate you from joy of driving. But they are tight for sure and consistant . Past Jettas did have some chronic hassles like elec.windows stopping or dropping and interior pieces comming loose.bad coils a couple of years ago Passats. Ive never had serious probs with VW and my GTI mk V has been great. My 03 Passat was great till I sold it with 70,000 miles.Folks are more particular then ever and have high expectations. Now the electronic doo dads are the stuff that can go loco more so than engines and drive trains Hence long eng' and drive train warrantiesAll cars have problems and fail if neglected. Todays cars are more reliable then back in the day and require much less maint. Hondas Acuras Nissans Volvo etc.all have certain areas they may need some tweaking. Just dont fall victim to all the hype by automakers and check with owners of these cars. Most cars begin needing new parts around 60 to 80k miles no matter the brand.Longer warranties are helpful. A good honest mech. and stay away from dealerships when possible.Hope this helps.

Although religiously maintained by my dealership, mine fell apart after 100K. was costing more for maintenance and repairs than the car was worth.
