We can only partially comprehend the notion of God's existence. To do so, we must use human concepts to speak of God: "without beginning or end"; "eternal"; "infinite", etc. The Bible says that He has always existed: " . . . even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God" (Psalm 90:2). And, "Your throne is established from of old; Thou art from everlasting" (Psalm 93:2). Quite simply, God has no beginning and no end. So, where did God come from? He didn't. He always was.

God came from the minds of people who were afraid and felt they needed something to believe in.

Also, in a more culturally appropriate explanation -- modern monotheism developed out of polytheism. In so called "biblical" Christianity you can see the last bits of polytheism (many gods) falling away in several places in the OT.

So at one time, not so long ago -- mankind thought every twig and rock had a god in it. Gradually people realized that wasn't true -- and the idea of gods gradually became the idea of God -- a single distant entity who couldn't be tied down to earthly concerns and so could be admired as the creature that handled all the unknowables.

Now many of those are becoming knowables -- and actually believing in God as anything real, rather than a cultural artifice and something that some people "need" is getting harder again.

I happen to be Christian (Episcopalian -- so left wing Christian) but both of the boys I raised turned out agnostics at best. I support their decision. Some people are trying to save a different branch of Christianity (called Evangelicalism) by basically brainwashing their youth. His Gracious Eminence, the Right Reverend John Shelby Spong -- bishop of Newark, ret. (Episcopalian) says that in the long run the brainwashing will fail. He says that fundamentalist Christianity, given what we now know, is like painting a corpse -- you can make it look lifelike, but it is still dead. I tend to agree with him.

So the short answer is. We created God.

Kind thoughts,

the minds of men who needed an explanation. If there is no answer make one up...sound familiar to men today? Its a phenomena that has happend for eons. People need answers so they find a way to get the answers. God was the easy collect all. Kinda like a garbage can. Lets all warship the trash can, it collects all things that we cannot logically put together for the further improvement of our quality of lives. Just like the random tid bits of information we had collected in ancient times but could not link, god was the collect all for all that information and it all looped back to him as the answer

God did not come from anywhere because God is everywhere. Like a perfect circle, no begining and no end. It's simple!
