Do you think she was serious? It really was an innocent mistake. The accents sound similar to me as an american. I like her though. How do you patch up something like that?

OOOPS! Yes, I think she was serious. Brits AREN'T Aussies, and they take great offense to someone thinking they are. Just apologize profusely and tell her you had "no idea". If you think it would be appropriate, buy her a supermarket variety boquet of flowers and give them to her when you apologize (one can't OVER-apologize).
Even "national" accents can vary from region to region, so it's sometimes hard to tell. Here in America we all sound different.....I talk Texan and sound different than someone from New Jersey. Next time simply say "I love your accent. Where are you from?"

It was a mistake on your part, i understand that.
Australia & New Zealand,( being i go there alot,)
Feel they dont have a accent, they feel you do.~ !
And neither places have a British accent ~!
Women are abit more aggressive there then the States.
They tell it like it is. ~ !
Also they feel they have the proper language ,
its Americans that dont.
You can patch things up, by saying Sorry.
Hope It All Works Out,
~*~*~*~*~*~Peace.

Just apologize and tell her that you are really bad at recognizing accents. I've mixed these up before too. If she likes you back she won't care or will let it go.

First hing to do is apologize to her for making the mistake. People, no matter where they are from don't like it when you say they are from a different country than they really are, would you like being called Canadian? Give her a sincere apology and hope she can forgive you

Just tell her your naive when it comes to certain accents and dialects and that it doesn't have a direct opinion of how you feel about her. I am sure she has heard it before and if she likes you she was probably just joking but maybe not

You did absolutely nothing wrong!!! You do not owe her an apology! The problem lies with her, not you. You can try to tell her that you were complimenting her accent and in NO way were you trying to insult her.

say to are sorry a million times
i'm a stupid american a million times
most important why ?????
look up history... Australia was a british colony were they sent there prisoners.. they have a hatred for each other that's been going on for century's. looks it up so when you do say you are sorry you mean it and tell her you did not know what you said but looked it up and that you did not mean to offend her

Apologize, and remind her that Americans are stupid when it comes to things like that.
