the THREAT? yes, its happening, but at a slower rate than the alarmist give and the general litany of the issue would have you believe.

the threat will be mostly beneficial though, even at increases of up to 2.5 degrees...

It is real and it is a very big deal. You can get a sense of how real it is by checking the first link below. That is a discussion site run be climate scientists to help the news media deal with global warming reporting. This site focuses just on the phenomenon itself and not the consequences.

The second link is a report by Sprott Asset Management and investment company. It is focused on the financial implications and thus also looks at some of the anticipated consequences. The most important consequences of global warming are weather changes, which may threaten our food and water supplies, ocean level rise, which will threaten millions living near sea level, and finally accelerated extinction rates of both plant and animal species.

The final link is a good place to start researching about global warming. Wikipedia is very good about including links to related subjects and source materials.

The third

It is a threat to the whole Earth!!! The more Pollution that goes up into our air does not allow the suns rays to escape the Atmosphere and therefore causes more Ice and snow and water to Evaporate. Get over the Fact that Environmentalist's are right for once. Global warming is real!!!

Global warming is a threat. I believe that it's not an immediate threat such as a pandemic or hurricane, but it's a threat for our decedents.

Global warming will cause climatic change. It'll turn good land into deserts, farmland we have today won't be able to growing anything on, the polar ice caps will melt, etc. etc. This may not affect us, but who knows what 100 years into the future will bring.

duh! its not a threat! its already there!
global warming happens on earth in cycles. every few millions of years CO2 levels rise in the atmosphere due to natural effects creating a green house atmosphere. right now we are in the portion of cycle where those gases are rising naturally. this wouldn't be such a problem except that we're exasperating the situation by using so many nonrenewable resources. that extra use is making the levels rise exponentially, to create a green house atmosphere much faster and with higher levels of greenhouse gases than is normal for a cycle.

greenhouse gases cause more CO2 to remain in the atmosphere, which then causes more CO2 to stay. its a vicious cycle. as that happens, the average temperature will continue to rise by a degree or so anually (although some years itll remain stable). while that doesn't seem so bad, one or two extra degrees is all it takes to cause glaciers to melt. now scientists know that these levels are rising even faster than first thought, which unfortunately for us, means that the processes are happening much faster, and are already affecting us.

yes, glaciers are melting. yes, it is happening faster and faster as the cycle progresses and we do nothing about our habits. yes, the cycle will eventually right itself. unfortunately, the process of fixing takes more time than most people realize (millions of years) so there's not much hope for the damage that has already been caused. our best bet now is to stop what were doing and try to figure out a way to reverse the process.

basically, we're in trouble. :(

Yes and no. It's true that humans are a major cause of global warming. But what they don't tell you is that global wraming has been happening on and off for thousands of years. At one point there were no polar ice caps and at one point there was an ice age. Climate is always changing on the earth. Nature has ways to work itself out and humans are part of nature. Also, if you look at how much greenhouse gases humans produce and compare that to one volcanic eruption, that one eruption produces as much greenhouse gases as humans did in the 1900s

Download and install one of these satellite programs like Google Earth. You can give it a little push with your mouse and it travels over the surface of the Earth.Go to a location, travel about 500mph,and you'll see that the Earth on a whole is hardly populated at all.Global warming? Doubt it.

yes the earth has warmed and cooled many times

its been much warmer than it is now so we should expect it to warm again

how or if we'll be able to adapt is a question, but there is little doubt that life itself (of which we are part of) will adapt
