cause i think pray is like mind power.. a deep psychological power..
as when i'm in fear, unconfidence, as a reaction into it sometimes i pray.. but i don't worship God since my definition of God is a bit different.. cause i believe God is all and all are God..
i see the power in praying is in ourselves not because outer power..
it's like a mental power, like motivation..

and so when people are in troubles, when one's family in sick, when we see people dying in war.. i sometimes pray.. but not asking God to help them.. it's just like sharing our deepest empathy..

cause i believe we have the power... or in other word God is in all of us..

no, i'm not praying to myself. and it's not about being arrogant or confidence in self, etc.. it's like what i said God is all and all are God.. or in other word, God is within us.. not just me, but all of you..
i find it hard to find the words..
it's like God is not a separated entity from us.. God is all of us..
that's why when i pray, i don't ask God to help..
yeah i think you can called it like meditation too.. thanks for the term, nicole and old lady.

ifeelyourpain: i don't afraid to admit there is a God. i believe in different view.

the key is in 'separation'. i think God is not separated from us.

What you've described makes perfect sense to me. You don't need anyone else's permission to pray, or to not believe in God.

What you need to do is stop praying in something you don't believe, adapt your idea that all the power you need comes from within, and be motivated by what the rest of us call positive thinking. It's a whole lot more effective than closing your eyes really tight and wishing something from an invisible friend.

Your views of God are very confusing to me. Why are you afraid to admit that there is a God -- higher than yourself -- a Creator and a Savior? It seems pretty futal to pray if there is no God.

I have always been comforted by believing that God is bigger than we are. I see His work in so many areas of my life daily. I have seen miracles in the lives of my family and friends. Sometimes, things happen, and we say, "It was a God-thing."

But to answer your question... there is nothing wrong with praying... but BELIEVING takes faith in GOD.

If you have never studied the Bible for yourself, I would definitely recommend that you read the book of John. Start there and find answers for yourself.

I think that even if you don't believe in God and you are praying, God still hears your prayers and answers them. He wants you to know that he really is there. Try praying to him specifically sometime. He's a heckuvalot more powerful than our own psychological powers. And no, you're not put on a back burner. Your prayers are just as important as everyone else's.

I think it's okay. I used to pray without believing in God (but now I do). I think we have an innate instinct to pray, or ask for help in a way, when we are in trouble or a difficult situation. We were born with that. I think praying is like asking a higher power (in most cases God) for help or guidance. Maybe God made us with the intuitive sense of knowing to pray when there's trouble or anguish. But yeah, it is okay to pray if you don't believe in God.

If there is no God, as you believe, then who are you praying to?If you could handle the problem yourself then you wouldn't need to pray. So aren't you asking for help from a higher power?
Don't believe in God, fine, then don't pray to him. Handle things yourself!

So what you are actually doing is a form of meditation, focussing your mind and sending out positive vibes. Well, if that works for you, go for it. There's certainly nothing wrong with it and if it doesn't fit some other people's definition of prayer, that doesn't really matter, because each of us is an individual. In any case, there are so many different ways of praying, no one really knows which is the 'right' one anyway, and yours sounds as good as any.

Personally, like yesterday at ANZAC service, when there's invisible sky critter stuff happening I just let the peasants babble... I do NOT join in. Pollies will say or do anything to keep the peasants happy. Nikita Sergeyevich Khrushchev: Politicians are the same everywhere... They'll build a bridge even if there's no river. ~

It's not pointless! If it makes you feel better about things, more power to ya! The human mind is very powerful and it letting out emotions/problems to a God that you don't believe in helps you... go for it. It's not hurting anyone.

I personally don't believe in God. And they will kill me before I pray for help to anyone. I'll rather die than have the help of a kid in his throne with a magnifying glass pointing at his creations and have chaos run loose through his playground. But then again we only remember God when we want something. I think that the only thing I like from him is "God help those who help themselves." If you can't do it then you're done. I have landed in the hospital 3 times for trying something and I live in regret.
