If your question is serious it is flawed. Whatever is defined as the 'soul' is not depend ant upon race or any man made decree- it is something we are endowed with such as a brain. A related question then is what is the 'soul'? Is it the life force that keeps our heart beating, the ability to love and have compassion and empathy, to appreciate life and death or general conscienceness? If the latter then do we know that other animals do not posses self awareness and therefore souls?

In the beginning, God created man. That means all men. How were you informed that 'black men' didn't get souls until 1865? That is why the Word of God says that we should study to shew thyself approved. This is a deprivational statement of black men(one of which I am married to) I am sorry that someone has misinformed you. And to add to the 3/5ths myth, God made man and his comment afterwards was that what He created was "GOOD". I don't think He would call 3/5ths of a man good. I don't know if animals have souls are not but with as many causes there are in the world today, find something to excel your mind because this is truly a case of you having too much time on your hands. May God Bless

In Judaism, all humans have souls and so do animals. In fact, everything created by God has a soul force called a "netzotz" or "Holy Spark" from God within it.

The belief that animals have no souls dates to the European Philosopher Rene Descartes in the 1600s. Best known for "I think, therefore I am," Descartes also put forward the idea that everything in the universe was nothing more than a big mechanical machine. He believed that animals have no souls and do not feel pain. He felt the same about workers, slaves, and serfs. His dualistic philosophy opened the way for much of the materialism of today. Roberta Kalechefsky's book, "Jewish Vegetarianism," has a whole chapter on the negative impact of Descartes on Western Civilization.

I guess when you wrote this you got the 6 and the 5 reversed.
The Dred Scott decision was in 1856, and the results issued in 1857.

I learned in school that the U.S. Supreme Court had ruled that slaves and their descendants were not "persons". That's not exactly what they said. They did conclude that they could not become citizens.

quote from the decision:
In the opinion of the court, the legislation and histories of the times, and the language used in the Declaration of Independence, show, that neither the class of persons who had been imported as slaves, nor their descendants, whether they had become free or not, were then acknowledged as a part of the people, nor intended to be included in the general words used in that memorable instrument.

When they wrote the Constitution, they had to adopt a pro-choice compromise on the hotly controversial issue of slavery. Then the slave owners had the gall to ask to count the slaves in their population so they could have more representatives in Congress.

I think someone may have asked, "Can't we all get along?", or "Why is everyone angry today?" So they compromised by counting three fifths of the slaves.

That led to the notion that they were only three fifths of a person under the law.

Constitutional amendments were passed by the Republicans after the Civil War to outlaw slavery and make citizens of the former slaves. I guess you could say the the Republicans decided they had souls.

Black people got souls in 1865??? You're an idiot - the Civil War ended in 1865 what does that have to do with them not having souls?

Pardon moi? Black people had soul when having soul was uncool.

I couldn't resist -sorry. But all sly talk aside, whoever gave you the idea that black people never had souls up until a certain point is an absolute idiot - and anyone believing it is a fool.

ALL HUMANITY -regardless of race, color or creed have souls. Not a living thing on this planet lacks a soul.

Racist's however, lack heart.

What planet are you from? No body gets souls if you look in Genesis it tell you that We Are Living Souls. And here is a shocker for you it also says that animals BECAME LIVING SOULS JUST LIKE HUMANS. So we do not get souls we are living souls. If people would read the bible for themselves they would be more informed.

Blacks have always had souls. Just because your a back woods hick who cant see the truth, white supremicists like you should only count as 3/5 of a person at most. Blacks are our equals and have always had souls and animals have always had souls too.

Really, it is like I said in your first question in this regard. Some people have souls and others don't. Souls are based SOLELY on the animals intelligence. And we are all animals.
