My cat does the exact same thing. You'd think after 11 years I would remember not to leave my cups with straws unattended but I always forget! It never fails that I leave the room and when I come back I grab my cup without looking and don't see the straw is missing or worse yet, my soda is all over the table with the cat under the table chewing on my straw!!!

It's not weird at all. Actually, I think it's kind of cute. My cat used to love to play with straws, they were his favorite 'toy'. We didn't use them in the house, but if we had, I bet he would have taken them out of our glasses. I stored extra straws for him in a pencil cup and he did knock that over once in a while.

My oldest cat steals straws all the time and hides them under the carpet. I went to clean under the rug one day and found like 20 straws hidden under there. It's a completely normal cat fetish.

My black cat Zoey goes nuts over those 2 foot long pixie stix. Old gf use to have a daughter that would eat them and the cat just went blistic over them. Take them, attack them, play with it for hours, carry it around like a bone.
My other cat Wesa, Siamese, she is a milk jug ring fan. Has her own personal collection of 6 different colors in the corner. If Zoey touches them Wesa is like a mad man. Wesa plays with them for hours on end. Tosses them around herself and catches them. Brings them to me to toss so she can play fetch like a dog. Brings them back to me and meows for me to throw it again.
Forget the bought toys....cats never stay with them. Wads of paper, milk jug rings, straws, even a squishy stress ball are the best toys.

That isn't weird at all mine loves straws and water bottles - he tried to drink out of them like he is a little baby it is the strangest thing that we had ever seen. - Apparently lots of cats do this :)

My cats do that as well - a staw is hours of enjoyment. I used to be worried that they would choke on it - but watching them throw the straw, pounce on it etc., I realize that they are not stupid and are just having fun.

My cat loves bottle caps. She bats them around with her paws like a hockey puck until she loses them under the stove or couches. She also adores rubber bands and pony tail holders. (Fortunately, she doesn't chew them! She just likes to make them spring and then chases them.) Cats just gotta play!

Normal cat behavior! Mine adore chasing bottle tops around too! And they like to push objects off the countertops into their water dish and then fish them out. They get bored and need to keep themselves amused.
