How about working part-time at night or evenings? That's what I do. Is your spouse around? What about working part-time while the kids are in school? There are jobs like that, but it may require some research to find them.

If babysitting works for you then advertise in the paper that you have new openings. If you are looking for something a bit different, you do typing for College kids, tutor in a subject you know, give cooking lessons, or babysitting lessons. Babysitting lessons are popular in our area. You basically set up 5 days worth of lessons for girls 11-14yrs old and teach them basic baby care, first aid, cooking skills, emergency skills, activities to play with their charges etc. They take a test at the end of the week and then you print out a certificate for them when they complete the course. This gives parents a sense of security that their new babysitter knows what they are doing. You can do 10 girls per week all summer. Around here, classes run from 10am-1pm (the girls practice making lunch and leave after) for 5 days and it runs about $100-150 a week.
Good Luck!

It is possible to have extra income from the net and if you have any questions about my suggestions, feel free to email me through "yahoo answers" I spend close to 12 hours a weeks (any free time that I have) on providing extra income! Here are what I do (my suggestions). .(1) I have a blog and a website that makes me money (took me a 3 months to make some money)(2) I also sell stuff on the Internet, basically I sold extra items that I had at home or I go to yard sales, discount bins at my local stores and resell them on the net. I use different "auction houses", One I use to sell small items and I use a local on to sell the bigger items (about two weeks for my first item to sell)
(3) I also make a little extra money by reading emails, I spend about 1/2 to an hour a night doing this, ( almost overnight even though it was just pocket change) I will post the link that I used below (for a website that I used for free info to make extra money)

If your kids are all going to school, look into getting a job as a teacher's assistant or a bus driver that way your schedule will be the same as theirs and you can be home for the kids. Or get some other kind of part-time job working on the hours that they are in school. You can accomplish this

My mom used to create workshops for kids. She'd teach history, science, and math mostly. We made enough money to go to China with that money (plus money we kids earned from going door to door selling rice krispie treats we made).

The best way to do it is tap into the homeschooling market. (they're not as weird as you may think and they always are looking for educational opportunities for their kids)

Create some short lectures, some hands on activities and some crafts, enough for a few hours and have a great time! We always helped my mom plan them and as we got older, we taught them ourselves too.

It's not easy money all the time, but it sure makes for some great experiences. You just have to be a creative teacher and everyone will have a blast.

Yes, I do! One of my friends got a license to run a small day care service from her home when her kids were young. That way, she got to stay home with her own kids, do working moms a big favor, and make money, all at the same time. I see it as a win/win/win situation.

If you have a great social network and would feel comfortable selling things to people that you know, then Mary Kay or Pampered Chef could work for you.

If not, then you could contact some businesspeople that you know and ask if they have any work that you could do at home, such as proofreading, special projects, transcriptions, etc. Think about your skills, and try to think of a business that could use your at-home help.

aawww mom, i feel your pain. i wanted this for my family as well. when my kids were toddler / pre-school age, i stayed at home with them and generated income by selling stuff from home. it all got started when i put ads to sell their baby things, like cribs, walkers, strollers, etc... and people loved buying 2nd hand items at the discounted price (cheaper than buying brand new) i then began buying baby items like this at garage sales if i could get them for cheap price, then clean them up or fix them good and sell them for usually 5X more than my purchase price. this was huge and the profits were great. ocasionally i would have a garage sale too. my niece later talked me into doing the buy and re-sell thing with furniture only. this also was huge and the profits were wonderful. sometimes i would even get things for free by picking things up from the side of the road that other had discarded, then clean it and sell it. doing this allowed me to stay home with my kids, saved me the daycare expense and worry. we enjoyed meeting people who would come and buy things from us, so we weren't just isolated, as some stay at home mommy's feel. this income added with my child support helped us get by, pay for our first home, and "extra" things, like McDonald's, new shoes, little trips to the water park, etc.... I wish you the best of luck and hope this info is helpful to you. There are lots of ways to stay home and make an income too, even with kids. It's hard, but look for a need in your community and fill that need. even if it is watching kids or whatever.
