I have been diagnosed with MS for 2 years. I have never taken steroids, however, my sister (who also has MS) has had to take them introveniously twice. Talk to your neurologist because MS affects everyone differently. Even between my sister and me. Your dr should be able to talk to you about the different symptoms and how to treat them based on the severity. I also suggest checking your area for different seminars that may be offered. There is a wealth of information out there for the taking. =]

I also have MS. I do not take steroids for every little symptom. A good rule of thumb is if the symptom doesn't go away in about a week or gets worse then you should call your doctor for an rx. Taking steroids all the time is hard on your body not to mention the side effects are hard to deal with. You want to only take them when you really need them.

Well, probably, to minimize the destruction. That is why it is called "multiple" sclerosis. The less destruction with each lesion, the less permanent damage. The scattered nature of the lesions is also why different people have such differing symptoms, it is determined by where their individual lesions are in their brains.
I suggest you doctor shop a little until you find a doctor who will fully explain these things to you, and that you have trust in, so you are not left to asking strangers such questions
