I work in a copy shop and am constantly whacking my fingers on equipment. When we went shopping for my engagement ring we saw hundreds of rings for thousands of dollars that would be destroyed if I wore them to work. We ended up buying a Diamonique ring from QVC for $60, and I have gotten more compliments then I ever got wearing a $2,000 diamond. If you do decide on something other than a diamond look into bezel set rings, thats what I did and I don't worry at all about the stone falling out and people freak out when I tell them it's not a diamond. And remember, this ring should mean something to you! As long as you like it, and it has special meaning to you and your fiance thats what matters.

Ok, all those other people need to be a little less rude. Listen I dont' see why starting with a CZ is a problem. Sometimes couples don't have alot of money for an engagement ring and need to start inexpensively. Just try to buy a ring with a real gold setting and just replace the cubic zirconia with real diamonds when you can afford to do so, and no one will know the difference unless you tell them. Try www.ziamond.com for some fabulous rings. JC Penney has some great buys for them as well.
Good luck in your marriage and don't let anyone make you feel guilty for taking the cheap road on something as frivolous as an engagement ring. Your relationship is what matters, not going into debt for jewelry when you can't afford it.

rather than fake get a smaller diamond even wal mart carries diamonds that are cheap or how about instead of a fake diamond get her birth stone with some small diamonds, this can make it more personal. have a speach ready if you dont want to look like you couldnt afford a diamond. but if shes really picky and gets mad shes not worth it

White topaz is nice, but you don't have to have a diamond or diamond-like stone for an engagement ring. I personally wanted to have a three stone ring with both of our birthstone surrounding the stone for the month we married.
Good luck.

Instead of a fake diamond, you can have semi-precious or precious stones which are not that expensive; but if u must go fake, cubic zirconium is the way to go. You get the look you want at half the price.

Go to Kay Jewelers, they have inexpensive diamonds about 500 for a 1/4 carat. I got my wife a 1/2 carat Heart Shape diamond for 1500, and it has excellent color, clarity, and shape

Why would you want a fake diamond? You could find a nice inexpensive ring for what you would pay for a nice CZ!!!
