Young Males (neutered or not) tend to play rougher than females. I would suggest you get another male... and probably even better to try and get one that is a little older than "kitten". They will be more evenly matched. I have done cat rescue work for over 12 years, so have brought many (over 200) cats through my house and watched the adjustment dynamics of many different cat personalities. Trust me on this.

The breed doesn't really matter. Typically, male/female pairs have an easier time than same sex pairs (though they can work too). Whichever you decide on, it's important that the new cat is spayed or neutered before coming home. Also, you should follow a slow and gradual introduction process. There are some tips for doing that on the web site below:

Often young males will attach themselves to an older one who will take them on as their protege. This might happen if you get a male kitten.

Males and females generally get along, so that's pretty safe too.

At age two, your kitty should still be very playful, and hopefully will enjoy having a playmate enough that gender won't matter.

When you get cats the opposite sex is the bet way to go. the little girl will"bow down to your tom cat" If you got a boy well even if he tolerates him as a kitten he may not when he is a big tom cat like him.

If he is neutered your best bet would be to get a female, having another male could cause you a problem.
