You're allowing those who want to control others' belief systems to define a debate for you that isn't logically valid. Religions are belief systems, rooted in faith--acceptance without proof, divine revelation, vision quest, however it is defined in that particular system. Science is about proof, testable hypotheses, and an ongong extension of understanding through observation and experimentation.
Those too stupid to understand science are bad scientists. Those who don't accept unprovable religious systems are atheists. One can be a scientist and theist both, as they operate in different realms--or one can be either, or neither. The problems come when one realm tries to enforce its system on the other. In anthropology, the useful discussion is separated into three categories: rational (those that can be tested and proved, or at least not disproved and shown to be logically derived, through scientific method), irrational (those that can be tested and shown to be false through scientific method), and nonrational (those that can not be tested and are neither provable nor disprovable). Belief in God would fall into the third category.

We all believe in what we want, can and must be. YES! People believe in God because of what you said.
NO! Because some people do not believe in God and they don't understand science while others do believe in God and they understand science. And tell me how can we find the truth if we do not what is the true truth? Your question is one of the secrets that can't be revealed. I agree in what you said, but as you can see their are other answers that are true.

A beleif in God does not conflict with science. Most, if not all of the great scientists throughout history have believed in God. One example is Albert Einstein.
One of the many reasons so many great scientists believe in god is because it is not logical to believe something can come from nothing.
Scientific theories of evolution do not conflict with the existence of a god because for any theory to commence something, chemicals, heat, gravity etc. must first be present. You cannot have someting come from nothing without a Creative force, God.
To understand this more easily it is Important to seperate a beleif in God from a man made religious system.Much of the confusion arises after this logical beginning because most religious systems created by man try to use the existence of God as a way to control other people or they try to say that their system is the only system that allows for communication to God. This is not logical either. Man can communicate directly with god just as we communicate with other people no middleman or middle system is required.

I understand science and fully embrace concepts like evolution, but I also believe in God. The two don't have to conflict. The greatest minds of the mediaeval world were muslims and were fully supported by the religeous elements of the time. I think that religion denying science is a step backwards. I can believe that things in the Bible happened, but believe that there is a scientific explaination for it. I may make things less mystical, but it makes things more believable.

If someone's religious beliefs are different from your own it doesn't make that person stupid. A lot of smart people have believed in God,including Albert Einstein. Besides, how many
people really understand science? Unless you're a
scientist-like a physicist or biologist-chances are you don't get
it either. Give the religious people a break, you won't come off
sounding so ignorant.

Thats not exactly true. Many scientists say the more they study the way of life and how everything fits together, the more they beleive in a higher-being (aka God) that put it all together. Others believe in a glorious God awaiting us in heaven because life seems so worthless without it. Even if you don't believe it, don't take that away from people

People believe in God because it gives them hope. Science is only capable of so much and then there is a point were you just have to turn things over to God.

I'm sure there are scientists who believe in a god or gods. That hardly makes a person stupid. LOL (You do know that Jesus isn't the only God out there, right?)

The only people who go to church are the bad ones. They know they have done something wrong and must serve to god to be forgiven.
If God created the world, who created God? SCIENCE!

Why do God and Science have to be polar opposites?
Science is proving that God and things that we say are from God exist.
