Yes, rice, especially white rice is a carb. Most diets that permit good carbs recommend brown rice. Good carbs are carbs that:

"Complex carbs (carbohydrate) foods are basically those in wholegrain form such as wholegrain breads, oats, muesli and brown rice. Complex carbs are broken down into glucose more slowly than simple carbohydrates and thus provide a gradual steady stream of energy throughout the day. Natural carbs are also a better choice when losing weight on the G.I diet plan. "

Yes, rice is a carb. But, there are different types of carbs - I have found the glycemic index to be a good reference when comparing types of carbs. Because carbs are turned into sugar during digestion, the glycemic index gives you an idea of how quickly those foods turn into sugar. High glycemic index foods will convert to sugar in your body quickly, while low glycemic index foods convert more slowly. (You want to eat foods that will convert to sugar slowly because it will better regulate your blood sugar and keep you feeling full longer. When you eat foods that convert to sugar quickly, your blood sugar increases quickly and then drops quickly as opposed to gradually increasing, peaking then gradually decreasing). For example, because white rice is more refined than brown rice, it will have a higher glycemic index than brown rice. I don't really think there is such a thing as a "good" or "bad" carb since all fruits, vegetables and grains are considered carbohydrates. I think a better indicator of what is good or bad would be to look at the actual sugar content of foods and even the ingredients that are making up that sugar content. Things that contain high fructose corn syrup are high in sugar and definately do not hold any nutritional value, however things that contain natural sugar such as a 100% fruit juices will obviously have greater nutritional value. Hope this is helpful.

I have 2 children who are insulin dependent diabetics, which means we have to count EVERY single carb that they intake. Rice is a carb, it is a complex carb which means it lasts a while in the body, where as juice is a simple carb and is used up quickly by the body. Carbs are the energy that get us through the day. Juices, fruit, sugars all are quick "pick me ups" and the complex carbs like rice, pasta, bread will "fuel your body" for hours! I hope this helps. PS: corn and peas also have carbs so be careful with them! Not all vegetables are sugar-free :)

rice is a starch like pasta, so its a carb. Most carbs that come from well-balanced food are good for you. For example, if the carb food offers other vitamins or minerals..its the carbs in sodas and junk food that arent good, also known as empty carbs. Fruits and Veggies offer the most nutrition when it comes to carbs.

Rice is a carb, but it's not a bad carb because it's a simple carbohydrate. What you need to watch out for is the complex carbohydrates like sugar, candy, anything that's been refined. Bread will not make you fat. It's what you put on it.

Yes rice is a carb.
bad carbs are generally ones with more sugar or are highly processed (ie white bread, white rice - anything white)
Good carbs have lots of fiber and are complex carbs. ie: brown rice, 100% whole wheat etc.

Yes, rice is a carb. Good vs. bad depends who you ask. In my opinion, good is whole foods, like fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, and beans. Bad is refined sugar, white flour, white pasta, white rice, corn syrup, etc.

Basically, if it looks like it came from nature, it's good for you. If it looks like people processed it and altered it a lot, that's not natural, and we weren't meant to eat it.
