Not everyone in america is christian. The bible is out dated, and many of its practices are ignored, like beating of slaves. I think in America since there is a separation of church and state and the church is for prayer and state issues marriages that divorce should still be allowed because not everyone should have to live up to the screwed up christian system

Well, when Jesus came and rose from the dead he paid for the sins we have committed. That doesn't release us from responsibility at all. If a christian gets a divorce while a christian, (unless their spouse has committed adultery against them) they are going against the marriage covenant. If you got divorced prior to becoming a christian and married someone else, you are to remain faithful to that marriage vow. Considering that Jesus stopped a whole crowd from stoning a prostitute, I think he will also protect us from the wrong-doing we commit. Adultery is something that the person will have to face on their judgement day. I agree that it is pathetic that so many people "fall out of love" when our forefathers managed to hack it. So often now other urges pull the husband and wife apart (Porn, Drugs, Materialism, and Extramarital Affairs.) Even 100 years ago, an adulterer would have faced huge oppression and would have probably moved to a new town where no one knew them.
It sounds like you've been hurt. Are you OK?

Leviticus and Deuteronomy are Old Testament....Christ, whom the New Testament is based on, changed everything. Christ said that no man should judge another.....God is the only judge. So even though we see our fellow man committing sins every day, we are supposed to remember that we, too, are sinners in one way or another. It's not our place to decide their punishment. Of course, there are a lot of Christians out there who seem to ignore the New Testament and use the Old Testament to justify their support of capital punishment, etc.

Actually, Christian reconstructionalists want to do just that... and they are on the verge of succeeding in the remaking of America as a Theocracy.
From religioustolerance.org:
"Its most common form, Dominionism, represents one of the most extreme forms of Fundamentalist Christianity thought. Its followers, called Dominionists, are attempting to peacefully convert the laws of United States so that they match those of the Hebrew Scriptures. They intend to achieve this by using the freedom of religion in the US to train a generation of children in private Christian religious schools. Later, their graduates will be charged with the responsibility of creating a new Bible-based political, religious and social order. One of the first tasks of this order will be to eliminate religious choice and freedom. Their eventual goal is to achieve the "Kingdom of God" in which much of the world is converted to Christianity. They feel that the power of God's word will bring about this conversion. No armed force or insurrection will be needed; in fact, they believe that there will be little opposition to their plan. People will willingly accept it. All that needs to be done is to properly explain it to them."
"All religious organizations, congregations etc. other than strictly Fundamentalist Christianity would be suppressed. Nonconforming Evangelical, main line and liberal Christian religious institutions would no longer be allowed to hold services, organize, proselytize, etc. Society would revert to the laws and punishments of the Hebrew Scriptures. Any person who advocated or practiced other religious beliefs outside of their home would be tried for idolatry and executed. Blasphemy, adultery and homosexual behavior would be criminalized; those found guilty would also be executed. At that time that this essay was originally written, this was the only religious movement in North America of which we were aware which advocates genocide for followers of minority religions and non-conforming members of their own religion."

You misunderstand. What you are quoting is Jewish law. It does not apply to Christians.
Yes many who divorce do eventually come to church. There are more of our population inside the church divorced than those outside the church. That is where they need to be?
You have no divorces because you kill the women who want out of bad relationships. It is wrong to kill your divorced women and then say look we don't have any. That is easy to see through-you people are the biggest liars on the planet. And poor liars at that.

Christians are not as stupid as to follow something word for word like the muslims who slaughter animals for Qurban as asked and demanded by the quran. Living in the 21st centure ppl should realise that enlightenment comes from within, not from out. True enough animals are killed for multifarious reasons but its extremely disheartening to realise that murdering animals mercilessly is demanded and compelled by a religious book - the quran - followed by millions - and remember it is the muslims that are causing much of the global terror today. Bali bombings, racism in multicultural countries, 9/11 Zarquawi, Idi Amin, etc. etc. etc.

When Christ died on the Cross, it made it possible for us to find forgiveness through accepting God's plan of salvation instead of being put to ddeath or sacrificing an animal for atonement. As for divorce, the Scripture teaches that it's acceptable when adultery is involved.

Leviticus and Deuteronomy are in in the Old Testament.
The New Testament does not direct us to do that. We are to point out what sin is, and to lead people to Jesus that He may help them and save them from their sins.

good question. society was much harsher back then. and unfortunately not everyone is a Christian. Christians do not own the world and cannot choose every punishment for every crime. there are so many other religions out there that Christians have to repsect even though they are not all right
