On the website that I am selling prints of my photographs should I add a watermark to the thumbnails for added security? I have a text mark on the large full size but should i put a small copyright mark in the corner of the thumbnails??

I wouldn't bother putting a watermark on a thumbnail. The purpose is for keeping people from trying to print and sell them. A thumbnail is a tiny glimpse of the final work, there's no value in selling that.

As an option, create thumbnails that are a detail of the original work instead of a smaller version of the entire piece. It will be more interesting.

From a legal standpoint, the courts have ruled that you can borrow someone's thumbnails and put them on your site. Think of it as sampling. It falls in the realm of fair use. However, you can't display someone's thumbnail and treat it as if the original work of art is yours. If someone is using your thumbnail on their site, they should have a link back to your site. This is the ruling that allowed the search engines to offer image search, as long as they also give the user the ability to see the thumbnails in their original setting.

So, skip the watermark. It's just going to make your already small image more difficult to see and less inviting.

If your worry about that, don't post them online. Put them in a shoebox.
With photoshop you can make anything dissapear on a picture.
I sell pictures also, I hope someone buys a mug or something so far I'm the only customer, I sell my pictures before I post them so I get some money for them. Then I post them as a free service.
People love it!

Yes, put something on the pictures. Also put a big notice on the webpage about how everything is copyrighted and you will be quite upset to see your images showing up elsewhere.

Certainly can't hurt especially since you appear to want to protect your rights in the photo's you've taken. Best to seek legal advice from a local attorney who knows their way through copyright laws.

It shouldn't hurt-but if the file sizes are very small. i.e. less than 150x150 then i wouldn't worry about someone stealing your image as it wouldn't be much use.
