it is a book made to guide the human race but not laws
one of my religion teachers described the Bible to me once as a "collection of love letters from God"
we are not supposed to see them as rules and regulations but we need to look hard and find God's love... that is the only thing that will inspire you to act as Christ. the inspiration and God's love

Well if you read the bible in it, it basically says a man can rape him wife and there is nothing she can do about it because she is his wife... remember in what years the bible was written? I think the human race has come a long way since then, maybe at the time the laws where acceptable, but in today society, most of the "laws" of the bible can't be applied as they are out dated and old fashioned... I don't think any man has the right to have sex with a woman whenever she doesn't want just because he's married to her, it's still rape in the eyes of the law... (sorry that was just my focus point to get my message across.)

No. It includes God's basic laws that should guide the human race, but it also goes beyond of being just a Book of Codes. It includes many analogies, histories, what-ifs, etc. in order to help us interpret the laws.
The problem is that many people DO believe it is a book of infallible laws to be adhered to literally.
In these instances, it's used frequently to rationalize or justify ones sins instead of avoiding them!
People use the Bible all of the time to justify murder, abortion, hate, discrimination, wars, the death penalty, divorce, etc. It should be obvious to Christians that God doesn't intend the Bible to be used for this purpose.

It is a book that has lost its meaning over the years. if you try to point out that in genesis adam means mankind and eve means life you draw blank stares. Everytime someone like Jesus comes along with noble ideas, stupid people place a dogmatic belief structure around it. and write a book. Thus we have the Catholics and Muslims, barbaric philosophies that advocate murder and deciet.

Clearly, there are many people who haven't read much or any of the Bible..!! I agree with those who said it's "love letters from God" and that it also contains directions for living... If only more people would read it and understand it...

yes
in Joshua it (the ten commandments and writings of moses) are referred to as the book of the law and the ark of the covenant.
if you observe the laws given by God you strive to be Chirst-like, and that is the nicest you can be =)

Yes. that's what it's all about. To some people, it's common sense, but to some it's not and they are the ones who need help finding their way.
