this is a very logical question because we notice that when there is any matter concerns Islam many answers comes in a stupid way. the reason is that they do not know what is Islam ?
it is the last relegion sent by god almighty to complete the message to manhood, and to tell people as a relegions , about moralities and the best way to save your self after death of this life which is not immortal as any one who thinks for a minute he will realize that life is too short and it is not fair for every one .
and justice in the eternal life only .
so, read about it or ask or think ,you will get it .
but if you listen to political propaganda you will see all things upside down .god bless every body who use the natural organ called brain........

Partially, people do that for the same reason Christians are stereotyped, especially in anonymous internet forums like this. A large sect or group of people makes an easy target for cheap insults. There has always been a layer of this in the US.
However, you have to admit the horrifying attacks of 9/11 polarized this xenophobia almost completely here in our nation. And it would be difficult to expect anything but such a mob reaction in the face of such an attack - reread your history on the US popular response to Japanese immigrants and Japanese Americans in the wake of Pearl Harbor.
Is it correct? Of course not. But is it difficult to separate the racial profiling from the religion? There too, of course.
Are all Muslims terrorists? Of course not. But were all the terrorists of 9/11 Muslims?

The same way people stereotype Christians or Buddhists or Pagans or any other type of religion or belief...
There are crazy types of people from nearly every religion... That is, crazy people who take a religious belief to it's most horrible extreme... It's not the normal people you will ever hear about on the news... it's the whacked out people of each religious belief that give the rest of us a name.
C.S. Lewis said that the only thing worse than a bad man is a religious bad man.
People are pretty ignorant, and learning about anything on the "NEWS" is most likely going to bring a person deeper into the vast and bottomless well of ignorance. The best way to learn about anything is to get your hands and feet dirty and get into people's lives and experience everything for yourself.
P.S. You spelled propaganda wrong.

I have been watching islam for over 40 years.
The unification of the muslim community in north America only began in earnest in the past twenty five.
The mullas were/are using the ""Peace Of Saladin"" technique
for many years. (Do not strike until strong!).
The TV is showing actual event around the world! muslims wearing SHAHEED BELTS that blow up offer a perfect opportunity for the world to see what islam is all about.
I realize that in a muslims mind it is unfair to show anything negative about them - even when they blow up their own children for the cause of the Takrit village (moon) god allah.
I am continually amazed that the Arafatians can kill so many, and when Israel strikes back, cry their eyes out, and get even more money from the West. (To be funneled off by the Top Crooks!)

How many people really stereotype Muslims. Maybe the real stereotyping is of non-Muslims thinking all Muslims are terrorists? As in people thinking all non-Muslims think Muslims are terrorists.

One stereotype I have of Muslims is that they will not let you practice your own religion in their countries, while in the U.S., they are allowed freedom of religion. For example, when U.S. troops are stationed in Saudi Arabia, they can't bring in any bibles with them.
