Choosing the best answer is not in the askers best intrest, you asked a question for an open / objective answer. That is why you should let the answer be voted upon. So that the answer wouldent be what YOU WANT TO HEAR but the TRUTH. Forget about the point system. The correct answer could save a marriage or a life. Any body else feel the same.

my point to most of you, is that it is what you want. which may not be the correct thing and believe it or not there are millions of people out there who WILL take your advise seriously and WILL ask a true question.

You can let people vote, but I think the asker should choose. I mean s/he was the one that wanted the answer in the first place.

Because this site is designed within Yahoo for people to get sucked into it and stay here for as long as possible.... very much like the casinos in Vegas!
The asker choosing what they believe is the "correct" answer is based upon them and their viewpoints, feelings, perceptions etc.
This whole thing is a great concept but it isn't designed and presented in a manner for people to actually learn or to share information (right or wrong) with others around the world. I'm sure that does happen though to some degree but its a side effect only.
Its PART of yahoo, yahoo is a "big business" and THAT is designed to make money. As you pointed out, having everyone vote on the answers might be a good way of doing it... although even in that , "mass majority" still might not reveal the "Right" or "Correct" answer!!!

If this site is where people are going to have their lives or marriages saved then those people are in serious trouble. This entire thing is entertaining but it appears that there are some people here that put way too much faith in what is being said here.
You do have a point though. I read a question & best answer on here that was not just incorrect, but dangerous. I gave the answer a negative rating and posted a comment stating that the information was incorrect.
The rating system is your defense against bad answers. If something is totally off base speak up in the comments section and rate it negatively. If someone is searching and sees that 99% of the people think that an answer is wrong they will probably realize there is something going on.

I think the asker should get to choose because they can pick which answer best helped them. After all, not every answer is right for that person's situation and they can share the one that helped them most (which one could have actually saved THEIR marriage or life). Then the people that answer can get a chance to show their opinion of that answer but voting for or against it.

No, I think the set up is fine. The asker should pick the best answer. It's up to the asker to double check which answer/advice he will pick. I hope people are not using Y answers as a way of them living their lives. If so, from some of the questions, there would be a lot of suicides and divorces.

I do think it would be cool to see what everyone else chooses as best answer. Than after the people vote the person who Asked should take into consideration what the majority vote is and vote best answer after that.

Because they are the ones asking the question and they choose the answer that worked for them. If you want to vote on questions, you can ya know. It's on the vote for questions tab at the top. You get one point for each vote.

Personaly, I dissagree. I think that the person asking the question is smart enough to make a decision from there on what is the best answer, and they can still read all of the answers. And who says just because a community votes, that the answer really is the best for the situation that the person is in?

i don't believe of a lot attempt is going into the choosing of merely excellent answer. from time to time the "asker" will opt for an answer as merely excellent answer and then ridicule the man with an extra remark. i imagine all that is going to teach that YA is used by using such an excellent variety of folk, we are able to not even wager what motivates them. evaluate this a thanks to strive against boredom and do not wish for excellence in the substitute of assistance.

The asker of the question gives them some rights by virtue of they asked the question.
