I've heard it may be somthing to do with coolant containers needing the coolant changed. If so, where can I obtain the proper coolant and is this something that I would want to take on myself or is it better left to a professional. Lastly, what would be the cost for a repair like this?

ok this is an easy but tricky fix.
The coolant doesnt have to be changed, it only has to be replaced when it leaks. this is not a normal thing, and your symptoms dont indicate a coolant leak.
there are six knobs that each need to be adjusted, if you dont know what your doing, its not wise to move any of them. there are 3 picture tubes, red, blue, green. each one has 2 knobs, one for focus, and one for brightness, they are all located on a single panel usually in the back of the set, If adjusting the focus doesn't fix it, you will need either a new flyback transformer or a new HV block. I would charge about $115.00 for a house call to adjust the picture, if it needs either part your looking about $150.00. If it is brought to my shop, $70 for the adjustment, $110 with parts replacement.
BTW, All rear projection tvs use coolant due to the picture tube being so small and produceing such a large image. Anyone who "troubleshoots" tvs all the time would know this.

Call Philips. They can tell you what the problem is exactly. I don't know of any 60" Philips that actually uses any sort of coolant. And a coolant would not affecet the blurry or brightness of a picture. To resolve picture problems I recommend buying the Monster ISF Calibration CD from the Imageing Science Foundation.

If you tell me what type the TV is, i can help. If it's a LCD or LCoS projection, turn down the brightness. If that doesn't work and you changed the lightbulb recently, you got the wrong kind. If that's not it, try changing the color filter.
