Thank you for your comments deidonis, there are other examples of Airbrush work I like but I cant find much on the web. For me personally i like to be able to see the technique and you can tell this has been Airbrushed. For me it is more lazy to hide the technique and i feel photorealism does this.

For me, it depends on what's being depicted.

I like the example provided; Grease is not exactly my fave musical, but the logo being used does help sell and communicate that 'era' of airbrushed graphic design. It's great because it kinda looks like glass but metallic but even a little 'wet' all at the same time. The 'background' of the logo also sorta implies a vinyl record, which would have been (along with an 8-track, I guess) the only way you could get a recording of the musical back in those days; besides, it also subconsciously implies the 'music' aspect.

There are still artists holding most of that aesthetic today; unfortunately, too many are getting lazy and just shading everything only with black; they don't really understand how (or again just too lazy) to graduate the colors (well, that and they're also trying to get it done quicker).

I can't say I like it over photo-realism (although I think with the invention of the camera, photo-realistic painting [of real people/subjects] is kind pointless), just that I don't see much use for photo-realistic airbrushing outside of touching up a photograph.

I prefer photo-realistic picture because it shows the real person not a illustion.
