Because part of Protestants is "protesting" his authority. Said as someone raised protestant but converting to Catholicism.

Because the Bible does not teach:
1) that Peter was a pope. There is no evidence, inside or outside of the Bible, that Peter was ever in Rome. He had a wife.
2) that there is such an office as Pope in the Lord's church. There is no Biblical authority for a "vicar of Christ on earth."
3) that Peter (or any other apostle) was infallible. Paul withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed (Galatians 2:11).
4) that apostlic offices had successors. Judas was succeeded only because he fell because of transgressions (Acts 1:25); when James was beheaded, he wasn't replaced because he didn't lose his office (Acts 12:2).
This is why I don't accept the Pope. I can't speak for protestants, as I am not a protestant; I'm just a Christian.

Most Protestants believe that the Bible, and the Bible alone, is the sole rule of faith for Christians -- even though this concept is not taught by the Bible.
Because they believe this, though, they do not believe in the Church as a living teacher on earth, with the Pope as its earthly head.
Matthew 16 is quite clear that Christ established a Church and commissioned Peter and his successors to lead it on earth -- but largely because of their "Bible only" beliefs, which again are themselves un-Scriptural, Protestants reject this.

Because Peter through Paul out of the circle and Paul had no authority to establish a church.
But, that didn't stop Constantine from inventing a church based on Pauline doctrine. Which is anti-Christian. Popes are "anti-Christs"

I would suggest learning about the life of Martin Luther for you, but nevertheless...
Most Protestant demoninations believed that following the Pope was akin to idolotry. Same with venerating saints. They were also against the abominations of the Inquisition and the selling of indulgances.
My personal opinion is that Mary Magdalene was to be Christ's appointed leader after he dissappeared, but Peter somehow got her out of the picture.

I don't worship Peter. I don't worship the saints, I don't make graven idols. I follow the teachings of Jesus'.
The pope is but a man, flawed. he is not a god.

Because Our Catholic Church has made so many mistakes and is still doing them.
When you hurt people in the name of God, believe me it is not a good thing and people will not believe in "you" or will want to be away of you.
