Im going to buy either of the above consoles for my son's 6th birthday. Which do you think would be best? I thought maybe the SP would be easier to use, rather than the DS with its sylus/pen thinggy. The SP is also cheaper, but Ive been told they are not going to make them for much longer. Im in UK btw.

DS, you can use SP games in it, and if you just get him simple games like spiderman or bomberman, then the touch screen is big icons mainly anyway so you dont need the pen. Helpful tip is to put a screen protector on it first so he doesn't scratch it up staight away.

Go with the SP. The DS is a lot more expensive, but it can play GBA games. Also the SP would be WAY easier to use for a 6 year old.

Go for the DS it isn't as complicated as you make out, i got my *** whupped by my 5 year old cousin on Mario Kart for the DS as well as metriod prime ( dont even ask why he had that!). If anyhting it'll improve his co-ordination and keep him entertained, but if you want something that will grow with him may i suggest the PSP, a bit dearer but has the advantage of memorystick slots and movies as well, however it doesn't come with the selection of child friendly games that the nintendo does. I would get the DS. It is a really great machine and my sons love them better than the SP. Plus, you get the newest technology and you may end up buying it in the long run anyway. Their support and service are excellent, because we dropped ours and we sent it in and they sent us one right away.

My 4 year old daughter loves playing DS. She is really good at it too. She will be beating me on Mario Kart in no time.(n_n)

dont worry he'll pick it up faster than you will. it also dose everthing that the sp dose + plays ds games.
