All stances against same-sex marriage seem to originate from different religious views. If there is an amendment that bans the church from state than why does the government take it upon themselves to determine whether or not same sex marriage should be legalized?
The church isn't allowed to make an appearance in public places, therefore why should the government be allowed to make appearances in issues that originate from religious stand points?
Also, marriage as itself has become over-rated, at first the union of two individuals was meant to be a spiritual commitment to one another and not a legal commitment to one another.
Any thoughts?

The term is Wedge Issue. Another example would be the flag burning ammendment. It's meant to force people on one of the two sides of the issue. It's meant to divide at a time where this country desperately needs to pull together. A political move that strengthens loyalties in a two party system. Mountians out of mole hills, and our children have to suffer the consequences of a country that uses such tactics to draw their people's attention away from the real issues.

Unfortunately that amendment only directly bans the establishment of a religion (and Supreme Court rulings have extended it to include implying a religion). That doesn't stop people from trying to push a law that has religious backing, although since the only reason behind it is religious, anything short of a constitutional amendment could be overturned.

The constitution did say it could be amended, which means, technically they could amend that seperation right out, if they could get enough states to ratify it (75%).

First of all, read the bible and the actual constitution - you may notice some similiarities.

Secondly, 45 States have amended their constitutions or passed laws banning same sex marriages - you can't say those are all 'conservative religious' states.

Voters in the states of Washington and California voted against same sex marriages - those two states aren't really 'bible belt' material debunking your "religious stand points" argument.

Superstitionists ( Fundi Christians ) make up a sizable voting block. As an example, the Republican party doesn't care about abortion one way or the other. The rich can always get safe abortions when needed, legal or illegal. They have appropriated anti-choice just to get the votes of the religious boneheads. The same goes for Gay marriage. I say, Leave the gays alone, let them get married. they deserve to be as miserable as the rest of us. Besides, they don't breed like rutting weasel immigrants from Cathoholic countries.

Because its a way to distract people from the real issues facing humanity today.
Clinton's misdeeds covered him selling secrets to the Chinese/N. Koreans
Bush is using same sex marriage/flag burning to divert attention from Iraq.
Every administration uses these tricks IMO.

same sex marriage is a political issue, because marriage is a political issue.

the church is where the wedding can takes place, marriage is a contract between two parties and is governed by state law.

I just can't figure this one out! Why does the government think they can tell us who we can marry? It doesn't make sense, and I hope that the people will protest. If they can do this, then what is next? How many children we can have? Where we are allowed to live? It's very frightening!
