You should not have a credit card if you do not know how they work. They are not a source of free money. They allow you to borrow for a period of time (either through purchased or cash advances) up to a certain amount. This is called your credit limit. It is not good to exceed your credit limit. Ofter a credit card company can demand that you pay anything over the limit immediately. (Read your account agreement that came with your card. If you do not have it call the company and ask them to send you a copy.) You will probably not get the account opening fee back. They may still charge you the monthly fee but you should request they stop if they have cancelled the card. When you call the company try to be polite and reasonable as if you call screaming you will not get very good service. If you are unable to make the payments call and see if they can work out a payment plan for you. It is important that you take care of this because it could be harming your credit report and make it hard for you to borrow money in the future. Hope this helps.

No the fee you paid when opening the account is not refundable, I am not sure but I think ou are charged interest on the money you owe the bank until that money is paid back completely, I also think that you have to pay a government fee while you still owe the money but that I am not sure of.

I personally believe that staying away from credit cards is the best way to avoid all of the extra hidden fees that these cards carry. If you need to you can call the banking/financial institution ombudsman to find out all of this information.

You need to pay off your debt. Any account fees charged to open the account are due, as are all interest, monthly account fees, as well as anything you charged to the card. Read your cardholder agreement; it's all spelled out there.

Cards that charge a fee to open the account and monthly maintenance fees are a ripoff, but they're perfectly legal in most jurisdicitons. Sadly, you've learned this the hard way.
