im on the nuva ring. usually i start my period between a couple days before or the day after i take out the ring as scheduled. its been 4 days since i've taken out the ring, and nothing, not even a tinge to my discharge. i haven't had any cramps, but was retaining water, up until this morning, when i woke up feeling great, no bloating. usually once the bloating stops is when i start to bleed. my boobs have been sore on and off, i've had weird cravings (hot dogs first thing in the morning) and out of NOWHERE about two weeks ago i got hit with the "baby bug" something fierce, which i've been told will sometimes happen when you ovulate, and i'm pretty sure you don't ovulate when you're on hormonal birth control. also, been tired, and sensitive to smells, and in general good spirits for no reason.. any insight?

update:

took a home preg test yesterday after work, and it was negative, however i still have not started my period, and my breasts are increasingly swollen and sore. also i have a bit of a sour stomach, and had a very urgent (not diareah but urgent) bowl movement this morning. i had sex with my husband last night to kind of "bring on the period" since this has worked in the past when i've been a day or two late, it usually "jump starts" it. nothing.

also, as an fyi, i would be moderately happy to exited about being pregnant. the only thing keeping me on birth control at the moment is logic, not emotions.

AND i know yahoo answers is not meant to substitute a doctor's opinion, i am more asking to hear about other women's experiences if they were similar and what the outcome was. Ultimately, i will take another test in a few days, and then go to my doctor. but in the meantime, i would like to have a general idea of what the "norm" is.

You could be....there is no way to really know without taking a test. You can convince yourself that you might be pregnant and you're period will hold so i'd take a test and believe whatever the test says. IF you haven't gotten your period it could be from fatigue, stress, fear of pregnancy, hormonal problems, illness, weight gain or loss, if you recently went off the pill. The tiredness could be stress, depression or you really just might be tired. the food cravings could be poor diet, stress, or an impending period. Oh and the boob pain that could be birth control pills or an impending period. I'd give it a week. If you haven't had your period by then, go get a pregnancy test. Either way, hope it's what you want!!

How long have you been on the ring? Have you been stressed lately? Also, and this has happened to me a lot especially when I got "baby bug" I got phantom pregnancy symptoms, when you worry so much about it you start to make yourself have the symptoms. I would just ask your doc about it, and maybe stop the ring and try if that's what you wish. Good luck!

It is entirely possible that you might be pregnant. The other possibility is that you maybe have convinced yourself that you might be pregnant and that is why you are having all the superficial symptoms. If you really think you might be, I would suggest a home pregnancy test first, then talk to your doctor.
