here s another solution. Draw a line through a 5. Now you have an algebra problem.

X+5+5=550. I came up with this when someone asked my this question.

The three possible answers that i know is:
545+5=550 (is you draw the line on one of the plus signs to make it to a four)
5+5+5 (does not equal sign) 550, if you draw the line through the equal sign)
5+5+5 (< or = to) 550, if you draw the line at an angle to the top line of the equal sign to make it less than or equal to)

I think if you add a small line to the first + sign you can change it into a 4, transforming the equation into 545+5=550 which is a true statement.
