I dont know nothing about cars, but known i wanted alloys, so of we went and bought nice alloys for the car, the garage we bought it from, fitted them, however left the spigot rings off, saying they do not fit, and its not important to have them on. Now we have had our car serviced, the dealership told us there was a problem with the car, our spigot rings were not on, leaving the car dangerous, the wheel could fall off at any time? We went back to the garage and they said they would sort it out for us, however he seems clueless that spigot rings are supposed to properly supplied when buying the alloys. He went through his draw of tools pulling out any other alloy spigot ring to fit on,none them fit, he said he would ring the alloy company to get us a new replacement but seemed unsure of what alloy we had, what size spigot and what car of what year we have. Has he ripped us off? And can trading standards do something about it.

You have a claim against them, and they should fit them free of charge. I once bought a car with Alloys on from a garage, it was one of the selling points for the car. After a couple of weeks I took it back because the wheels were rubbing on the wheel arches when there wer 4 people in the car. The mechanic at the garage who sold me the car said it should never have had alloys on, it wasn't suitable for them. They changed the rims to steel ones, and then wanted to charge me. I refused to pay and said I had already spoken to Trading Standards, which I had, and they would be perfectly happy to take up my case against the garage. The garage than said it was free. And then I asked them to change to spare, as it was an alloy as well, so i got all 5 changed.

You were ripped off the dealership was correct.Having experience of the motor trade i doubt that trading standards will intervene.Go back to the garage you bought the alloys from and ask quietly at first if he would get you the necessary spigot rings If not threaten to take him to the small claims court that usualy works Regards Mick

If the car is unsafe, It is my understanding that in New Hampshire that if we permit an unsafe vehicle to leave our garage that the inspection Lic is at risk. Contact DOT or DMV for the regulations, get a quote from the dealership to correct the problem, even if it is new alloys and go to small claims if they are not willing to make it right. Mark

can you just clear up who you got the wheels off, the bloke who fitted them or someone else.
the spigot rings are supposed to be in place but if the wheel is tightened okay it will not drop off.
trading standards will tell you to allow the supplier of the wheels reasonable time to make good.

any engineering workshop will be able to manufacture spigots for you, you will have to tell them make, model, and age of your car(you should know this!) and take them an alloy. (your car manufacturer dealer will be able to tell you HUB FLANGE DIAMETER).
they will simply measure the inside diameter of the wheel, and be able to make rings on a lathe(similar to a drill).

Hell yes hes ripped you off he fitted a dangerous part to you car and made it unsafe to drive and if the wheel had fell off cos it was incorrectly fitted it would be his fault go and see your local C.A.B. for help good luck

you betcha he ripped u off. call the proper authorities on this incident, what he did could have cost lives. judging by what u said, it sounds like u know more about cars than this dolt.

And dont forget to tell your insurance company that you have modified the vehicle, otherwise your insurance will be void.
