I am curious to know why a man can't use a stall when he goes to the bathroom to urinate. What makes the urinals better than that kind of privacy? Does it not seem weird to have to be standing next to another guy while in the bathroom? I think stalls should be put up at least next to each urinal for more privacy. Just my opinion. What are your thoughts?

They arn't "necessary" but they certainly make life a lot easier.

1) Some people put narrow partitions in between urinals so that no one can see the others privates. Most of the time this is not an issue though. Urinals are usually adequately spaced apart. You really don't need to be lookin down the entire time anyway. However, mens bathrooms have stalls and urinals. If someone is really that shy - they can just use a stall.

2) They are more efficient. They save Time and Water.
a) Most of the times a guy uses a rest room all he does is piss. Why should he have to wait for a stall, lock it, and go through all the stall motions when all he wants to do is piss quickly? Have you ever wondered why the mens lines go so much quicker than the womens lines for rest rooms? It is because we have urinals!
b) Also - think about how much more water is saved when you use a urinal! Why do you need an entire toiletbowl full of water to eliminate pee? Water is a scarcity.

3) Urinals are cleaner. When men use stalls they often don't put up the seats and then end up splashing them. Now the next guy must either sit on a dirty seat or clean it.

Men don't use the stalls because they are taught to stand up to pee. If you were to add stalls, some men would make it their business to pee on them in some sort of bizarre 'marking territory' ritual.
I am a fan of the ease of cleaning and the water conservation of urinals. I actually have one in my house. My man has many friends that are always coming by, for cook outs, band nights, parties, we are the key house, or whatever. They all know where it is and prefer to use it over the other two bathrooms in the house. Men just pee standing up and this is easier for them, no aiming, no chance of a cold water splash bath of body parts. Sitting is easier for a woman.
As for privacy, Men aren't worried about that too much in general. The way a urinal is designed it affords some privacy, and the act of holding 'things' to make the necessary water works conceals quite a bit in and of itself.
Women now, we need the privacy of a stall because we have to get half naked to use a toilet.
There is also such a thing as urinal etiquette, Men use every other open urinal, they rarely crowd up next to each other, and they are far enough apart that one would have to actively and obviously ogle the others. I don't know what a man would do in that instance, but I imagine the one who eyes others while urinating would not be receiving a friendly smile and wave back.

Good Question!!! Urinals were invented as a space saving tool to accommodate more people at one time in public facilities. I think most men have some type of phobias about them on one level or another. In better locations partitions are used between Urinals for a modicum of privacy. My biggest issue with urinals is that most men piss all over the floor. I have never understood this. Simply Stand, Deliver, Shake off, Zip, and go. Its not that difficult. They are really necessary to accomodate more people at a time.

Lol, why is it that women can't just leave men as they are?
Everything that a man do,it will be subjected to women's criticism.

Since you wanted to know so much, here's why.

Guys can pee sitting down.Provided they aim their hoses down and this is not very confortable especially when guys have an erection.

When urinals are taken away, men will pee at toilet seats. Our penises aren't able to withstand hydrostatic pressure u know.If we are able to do that,we can fire away like a pistol.
So when you pee,it will start with a trickle then to the real volume then back to a trickle and ends.
Trickle is the cause of pee on toilet seats.

Urinals are designed to catch the trickles thus more hygenic.

About privacy, some urinals already have a partition.

A urinal is both necessary and functional. Men are designed to comfortably pee whilst standing up so it makes sense to do such a thing.

Many answers have reflected on the hygiene value of urinals and these are correct. Also they are environmentally sound in that less water is used and they are more efficient (hence the short lines of waiting patrons).

As far as any embarrassment this is allayed at an early age for us blokes. Men generally do not flaunt their pecker (unless they are famous pop stars hiding their sexuality) whilst in the toilet. No physical contact is made so standing shoulder to shoulder is not an option. The direction of your gaze is also strictly controlled to ensure a glimpse of another member is not made in error. Finally men will only converse/acknowledge each other when on the same platform i.e. both urinating, both waiting to urinate, both finished urinating.

Men are lazy. Men care very little. Men are easy to please.

With a stall, you would have to open and close a unnecessary door, not to mention the toilet seat. With a stall, you would assume that men require the privacy that a stall provides. With a stall, there are added expenses.

With a urinal, you walk up to it, pull out your wanker, drain and return it. Easy. With a urinal, you have the biggest target since the Death Star's huge cavern that went straight to the exhaust vent that led to its doom. Easy. Finally, although a urinal looks like a trough, men dont really care.

urinals aren't necessary, but i would guess they save time then having to go into a stall, lock it, you know, all that. I actually think there is like a code: if there are three stalls, NEVER use the middle one. just wait until one of the other ones are open.
Haha, a guy friend told me that, so I guess they don't stand next to each other.

PS- Darthritis, that is very untrue, a very stupid stereotype, not all women treat men like that, and, some men also treat women like that.

Another thought is that it would cost less for the business or where ever the bathroom is, to have the urinals instead of the stalls because they don't have to pay for the walls to go around it.

The main reason for urinals is cleanliness. First of all to get a man to sit on the toilet and urinate is just not going to happen, so therefore he has to stand up and urinate. If you have ever lived with a man, you know that his aim is not very good alot of the time, therefore he pisses on the seat. Now you have the next guy that has to either clean the seat, or sit on a pissed on seat, to take a SH1T. Get it. I hope you understand now.

It's a space saver. You can fit more urinals in a bathroom than stalls. Which is another reason why women's lines are super long all the time and guys lines are non-existant.
