The United States doesn't have a problem with gays, lesbians, and bisexuals having equal rights. What we object to is giving them special rights.

Based on the 14th Amendment of our Constitution which states:

"All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws. "

the arguments that people make regarding rights for gays and lesbians are moot. They get upset about the fact that something they cannot understand is - when the Bible is removed from consideration as it should be when examining a legal question - equal in terms of the law.

I find it truly ironic that a so-called conservative would say "a gay man can marry any woman he wants", etc.

I thought preventing same-sex marriage was to protect the sanctity of marriage. Thus, you encourage loveless sham marriages simply for the tax benefits? That's protecting the sanctity of the institution?

No wonder American heterosexuals have made such a mockery of the institution. The will support the rights of people to create fake marriages, but they will fight tooth and nail to prevent two people who pledge to care for each other from getting the societal benefits of the institution.

If I'm understanding your question correctly, you want to know why the United States won't respect the GLBT for demanding equal rights? It's because of the uber-Conservatives and homophobia. GLBT folks have been working, living, worshiping, and being part of civilization since the dawn of time. All they want is to be treated with decency and respect. You don't have to agree with them, just realize that they bleed, hurt, cry, laugh, and love just like hetero folks do. Why don't people just live and let live? Life's too damn short to be worried about a gay person or couple who probably got it goin' on, while there are hatemongers that can't make it from one paycheck to the next. GLBT should demand equal rights. They're people, too. WBryan28, you're on the money, baby!

other then the right to get married.which some states are allowing.what other rights should they be allowed that I'm not?I'm not allowed to have my girlfriend covered under my health care,not unless I'm married.i have never seen on any forms I've filled out, what is your sexual orientation?
maybe if it weren't thrown in peoples faces about there sexual orientation things would be a little better.I'm far from being a homophobe but even i get tired of people that are gay who feel like they have to throw how they want to live there lives in my face.it's like your saying I'm gay so i should be treated special.
keep what you do at home at home and you'll see you do have equal rights.

The Gay community already has equal rights in this country. For instance, they can get married just like anyone else. A gay man can marry any woman that he wants. A lesbian can marry any man that she wants. What's the problem?

They already have the same rights as everyone else under the law. They just want additional and special rights because of their chosen and sinful lifestyle, which most people in America are able to see are a perversion and against nature and against God

If you mean accept, it might be because this country has some extremely deepset conservative opinions. That tend to breed bigotry. People are also slow to accept what they do not understand. I personally hope this country will continue to move toward embracing the idea of " Live and let live".

What it all boiils down to is separation of church and state.... If there was truely a separation, GLBT rights would be assured as soon as science proved that homosexuality is not chosen but rather it is the cards you are dealt at birth.....
Churches are too involved in our government...

Because they don't even recognize the equal rights of women, what do you expect? For being such an "advanced" country we can sure be bassackwards when it comes to taking care of our own citizens...
