if you have a heavy bag just set a timer for three minutes and do a couple of rounds. work on your technique mostly not an beating the bag. try to be random with your strinking dont always use the same combinations explore new ones to find out what you can throw best. different striking helps different things. straight punching like jabs and crosses will build your upper body and the constant motion will strrengthen your punches. finish the workouts with consistent jabs and crosses for ten second spurts to build stamina that will allow you to explode when your tired. another excersize is to get real close to the bag and just move around it trhowing upper cuts and hooks. this is gonna strengthen you punches when you dont have a lot of room to throw them for working inside the body. most important thing is to always move your feet in all these drills. hover around the bag changing direction and moving randomly. the worst thing you can do is sit in one place and keep your feet planted cuz when you get in the ring you opponent will be able to pick out your rhythm and completely use it against you. and then your finished. hope this is some help and good luck man.

Kicking the punchbag using good martial art technique followed by punching the bag for five minutes at a time would give you a good workout.

I have a heavybag that I hit 500 times a night. Before you do anything, make sure that you get the right gloves, wrap your hands, etc. Do some research on preparation. It is loads of fun, though.
