this chicken that you were not his mother?

He is under the mistaken impression that I am his Mother. It is an unfortunate truth that he was made in a scientific laboratory in a 'beaker'. Is there any way to break to to him gently?

Tell him...I'm sorry little guy, I am not your mother, but I will take care of you and you will someday have many hens of your own and they will provide me eggs and meat. You will have a good life, but I cannot provide you with your chicken love needs. (I had a love bird that refused to sleep except on my pillow. I got her when she was little and she too thought I was her mom or love I'm not sure which. She would sit on my shoulder until I had to leave and I would put her in her cage and hang her on the patio overhang. She sang beautiful songs. It was a lovely time. One day there was a bad storm, very unexpected and her cage dropped to the ground. The door was opened and I pray she flew away and lived. But, I fear the worst. It is hard loving a love bird. I vow never to leave another bird outside if I am not home.)

Impression at birth is irreversable, you are stuck. You could tell him but that would cause needless pain. Instead tell him how you like fried chicken smothered in grazy. Talk about the chicken strips at McDonalds, tell him to go out a make something of himself.

Simply say "Yo, KFC, I'm not joe-momma"...
Here, I'll translate it for you into fowl:
Cluck cluck buck buck Yaaacluck buck"
and then scratch 3 times with your left foot and then kick back the scratch with your right. Just once, though, because twice with the right means you want to go to dinner.
He should get the picture, especially if you lift your left foot a little higher on the throw-back when you're scratching.

A "beaker"! Bwahahaha! Took me a minute. Anyway, no need to explain the inexplicable, just slap some of that spicy orange sauce all over him and make Hooters wings out of him!

Well, I suppose you have the responsibility now to care for him. I suppose chickens grow up fairly quickly. Just wait..he'll soon want to spread his wings and move on. Raise him good so he can be the best rooster on the block.

Unfortunately there's no gentle way but to choke that chicken and tell the truth.

ask him for rent
and ask him to do chores for you
and ask him to bring you around to stores and stuff
and have him do yard work
lets see if he still thinks the same way after all of this

good luck
