When I make sandwiches with tomatoes the bread always goes soggy?

they should put the tomatoe between the cheese and lettuce so the bread doesn't get soggy.

They don't do anything special. The trick is that you are eating the sandwich right away, before the bread has had a chance to get soggy. Also, they put the ingredients on in a certain order, coating the bread with something fatty like mayo and laying down things like ham and cheese before they ever put the tomatoes in. All of which creates a barrier between the tomatoes and the bread.

They always keep the sandwiches that contain tomatoes hanging around too long.

If you make a tomato sandwich at home, or the sandwich is made in front of you, you eat it straight away or within a few minutes. So the juice does NOT have time to soak into the bread.

But if you buy a pre-packaged tomato sandwich, the juice from the tomatoes has time soak into the bread, as you have no idea how long ago it was made.

If you don't want you're tomatoes to make the bread soggy, sprinkle them with a little salt and leave for 15 mins. It will draw out the moisture, you can either leave them salty or rinse it off, pat them dry, then pop them in your sandwich - bit of a ball ache for a sandwich though!

That is so true! I have no idea what they do to toms in sandwich shops but i know the tomatoes don't taste quite the same as ones you buy yourself. They are probably not even real tomatoes, they are fake ones that cost a fraction of the price!

once you slice the tomatoes, take off the pulpy seedy bit, this is the part that makes the bread go soggy.

You are not to place the sliced tomatoes directly on the bread, but to place something else as a divider, such as lettuce, cheese, whatever.

when tomatoes are exposed to air, it dries up the moisture in the tomatos... probably in sandwich shops, the tomatoes are aired for a while.

if you notice, the sliced tomatoes are in a container, where they lose some of their juice. also, the tomatoes are placed between other ingredients.

use firm not over-ripe tomatoes and put between 2 slices of ham, cheese or whatever you are using
