Same reason why when you throw the ball up in the air in the street, it doesn't go flying through your neighbor's house.

the basic idea is, the momentum of a body remains same(and this is the law of inertia). momentum is velocity*mass of the body..
so at the time of throwing the ball up, the ball will keep going at the speed at which it was travelling earlier.. but iif u decelerate, or accelerate the car, the ball will hit the front/back window..
but this is possible only if wind drag is zero.. ideal conditions.
