"He who can be trusted with little can be trusted with much" Luke 16:10

Do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. But seek the kingdom of GOD, and all these things shall be added to you. Luke 12:29-31

Phil 4:11-13
1 Not that I speak from want; for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. 12 I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. 13 I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

Read Matthew 6:25-33 it says 25 “On this account I say to YOU: Stop being anxious about YOUR souls as to what YOU will eat or what YOU will drink, or about YOUR bodies as to what YOU will wear. Does not the soul mean more than food and the body than clothing? 26 Observe intently the birds of heaven, because they do not sow seed or reap or gather into storehouses; still YOUR heavenly Father feeds them. Are YOU not worth more than they are? 27 Who of YOU by being anxious can add one cubit to his life span? 28 Also, on the matter of clothing, why are YOU anxious? Take a lesson from the lilies of the field, how they are growing; they do not toil, nor do they spin; 29 but I say to YOU that not even Sol′o·mon in all his glory was arrayed as one of these. 30 If, now, God thus clothes the vegetation of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much rather clothe YOU, YOU with little faith? 31 So never be anxious and say, ‘What are we to eat?’ or, ‘What are we to drink?’ or, ‘What are we to put on?’ 32 For all these are the things the nations are eagerly pursuing. For YOUR heavenly Father knows YOU need all these things.

33 “Keep on, then, seeking first the kingdom and his righteousness, and all these [other] things will be added to YOU. 34 So, never be anxious about the next day, for the next day will have its own anxieties. Sufficient for each day is its own badness.

Maybe its just me. Is it not a requirement for people to believe in the God of the bible before it can work for them. I am not sure that 'religion' would cover what I am trying to bring across so I would not use that term.

I think there needs to be a willingness on their part to believe that God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. God is not a cheap magician you bring your shopping list to so He can foot the bill. Rather we should live for Him we should put Him first; seek Him first and all other things would be added to us.
I have not answered your question but I hope this give you something to think about and consider as you help this family. God guide you and lead you as you act as a Samaritan on their behalf.

Praying for their financial situation will only hurt them, if that need were met. You need to pray for their salvation. The Bible is not magic. There is no special passage for money, or anything else. Satan crept into the church long ago, he tries to get our atention on the wrong things. Satan would be happy if he could get the church worried about everyone's finances and not hell.

I'm leaving you with a gift: peace of mind and heart! And the peace I give isn't fragile like the peace the world gives. So, don't be troubled or afraid. (John 14:27)

He (God) comforts us whenever we suffer. That is why whenever other people suffer, we are able to comfort them by using the same comfort we have received from God. (2 Corinthians 1:34)

Let not your heart be troubled. You are entrusting God, now trust in Me. (John 14: 1).

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)

II Corinthians 9:6-8, Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Psalm 118:8 It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. Psalm 31:24 Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord. Psalm 32:8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.

Come on man, you will only make them laugh on you. Ask them to work harder, that is the biggest prayer. God is not limited to a few verses, he is everywhere, pray to him but also work hard. Pray any way you want, in any language you desire.

Matthew 6:25,26 "Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious bout your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink, nor about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.

No, I don't. Prayer doesn't pay the bills:

Two hands working can do more than a thousand clasped in prayer.

PROSPERITY

Father, in the name of Your Son, Jesus, I confess Your Word over my finances this day. As I do this, I say it with my mouth and believe it in my heart and know that Your Word will not return to You void, but will accomplish what it says it will do.

Therefore, I believe in the name of Jesus that all my needs are met, according to Philippians 4:19. I believe that because I have given ththes and offerings to further your cause, Father gifts will be given to me, good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will they pour into my bosom. For with the measure I deal out, it will be measured back to me.

Father, You have delivered me out of the authority of darkness into the Kingdom of Your dear Son. Father, I have taken my place as your child. I thank You that you have assumed Your place as my Father and have made Your home with me. You are taking care of me and even now are enabling me to walk in love and in wisdom, and to walk in the fullness of fellowship with Your Son.

Satan, I bind you from my finances, according to Matthew 18:18, and loose you from your assignment against me, in the name of Jesus.
