The official languages are German, French, and Italian.
Romansch is a "national" language but not an "official" language. And no, I don't know the difference...all four are on the money, but I think federal publications only have to be in the official three.
Romansch is only actually spoken by about 15, 000 people--and only the kids in one small area of Switzerland have to learn it at school.
Plenty of people do speak English, that's true (especially in business). And the German they speak is very different from the Standard German they learn in school.

In Switzerland they speak 3 languages, depending upon the regeon that they live in. They either speak German, Italian, or French.

lynda is wrong. sorry lynda. the official count IS four. German, French, Italian and Romansch, but Swiss German could be considered a language unto itself because of the sever combination of french into german and the other dialects that created it.

They also speak very good English in Switzerland. Everyone we spoke with had excellent grammar.
