My hair is long and I feel lucky not to have a perm although my hair is curly. You see, my sister's hair was as long as mine until her perm made her hair fall out.
If your hair is the type that gets nappy easily, you will get frustrated trying to do it yourself. But you can still flat iron it and press and hot-comb it.

I feel great. I figure that if you are one of the lucky few who can handle perms, and have a stylist that knows how to properly apply perms - live it up! Take advantage of it while you can.
But I have a bad history with perms and though I get tempted to go back to the chemicals every now and then, the memories of perming knock sense back into me.
