This is one of the purple passages / quotes from Sir Francis Bacon. Quite precise, pointed & power-charged with wisdom.

As we all know life is short & art is long. Can we pay the same attention to all books?Besides being impossible for a voracious reader, it is not at all necessary.

All the books don't demand the same attention. Some are for one browsing thro' Some are are to be swallowed, that's read with minimum effort & concentration. Some books are of real merit. They are to be read over & over again to get all the inner meanings. I think, The Davinci Code, or a Shakespeare's play, or for that matter any literary work are to be read slowly, understandingly & with appreciation & joy because in them are the Life's Interesting & important lessons. No hurried reading done away with them.

Francis Bacon quote!

The full quote is:

Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed,
and some few to be chewed and digested.
That is, some books are to be read only in parts; others to be read but not curiously; and some few to be read wholly, and with diligence and attention."

I suppose if you differentiate between trashy romance novels, fairly good popular fiction, and true literature- you get the 3 categories.

Wonder if this applies to websites?
lol.

I totally agree with that, it is a good saying that describes the way i read. I read often but there are some books that i can get into but others that i cant even understand.

I want to say Mark Twain, or some other author of around that time....
It's not CS Lewis...
Not Robert Frost, either...
Too wordy for Hemingway...
It may have been Longfellow.
